Doing Searches
Rcdyna:
I'm a old guy with NO computer skills, but I can get by doing basic stuff. Here is my problem, I do a search on a topic and lets say it brings up 50 different post. I click on and read post #1. I than arrow back to read post #2, but all the posts have disappeared. Hitting the arrow button is the only way I know to go backwards. Every time I arrow back my search results disappear. Can you help me with this. I don't know if its the site, me or my computer. Thanks Bob

It drives my wife crazy, but when I'm looking at search results (Google or GTA), I right-click (i.e. the other mouse button) just once on the link I want. That will open a menu with things like "open link in new tab" and "open link in new window". I almost always go for new tab. I open as many as I want, browse them, save some, and close others. Then I open a bunch more. This way I don't loose search results.
The other good trick is to duplicate a window. Once you've seen what multiple open tabs looks like, you can right click on one and get a list that has "new tab", "reload" (good for pages that mess up for some reason), and "duplicate" which is about as valuable as "open link in new tab" because it is a perfect copy of the tab you are on now and will let you go back if you need to while preserving the page you made it to.

I do the same thing David. I always seem to have multiple tabs open.

It crossed my mind later to describe the "duplicate" feature as a way to go back without loosing the page you are on (especially if you can't remember how you got there).
The other useful trick, which might depend on your browser, but at least works for Chrome is ctrl-shift-t to "unclose" a page (or a number of pages) you closed by mistake. Literally like an undo for closing a page. It even works after you close a browser, if it isn't set to forget everything after you close a browser.

Sorry guys, guess I'm just really computer challenged. I did a search, got 27 pages of results. Did a right click (laptop) on the link and got the following choices. Cut, Copy, Paste, Paste and search, Undo, Select all, but no open new tab or open new window. I'm still doing something wrong.
