Half pumping will also increase pressure. That's why it's important to pump in one long, smooth stroke, until the pump arm is fully closed.Otherwise, your muzzle velocity will vary, affecting accuracy.
Wendell, It is interesting to note that the 853C automatically advances the ammo clip when cocked.Nice feature. Here's the parts list:
There is no telling what this went through before it was dumped off at the gunshop.

You have seen the light! Now, if you'd stop shooting those ragged pellets..........

The small, extra amount of air isn't enough to set off the bypass. But, it is enough to get an extra 40, or 50 fps. Problem is, you can't control the velocity, and, it will change your POI , to varying degrees. I only know this, because I messed up, a couple of times, when I was chronographing an 853, that I picked up, to give to my grand niece.

Well, I've been shooting the 853c today, a bit, and I'm very impressed! I've been loading with a pair of needle nose while I wait for my clips. Shooting one ragged hole with a scope. I kind of gritted my teeth wondering how the trigger would be... not bad at all! Better than some of my Crosmans. Quiet and accurate!
