Crosman/Reminton NPSS piston
«

(I posted this in American Airguns but it's gotten no play so, thinking these are more like the Crosman NP's, figured folks here might be more familiar with them.)
I used to have a Crosman NPSS and every once in a while I will see one come up for sale. But I pass because I'm not sure how long the pistons last. The guns are getting on in years. Does anyone still have their's and is the piston still holding? Or have they been replaced and, if so, what with? I remember Gene's excellent review and how well these guns were received. Why I'd be tempted to have another IF the rams are not a stumbling block, being out of production.
Thanks in Advance. Red

I can't help you with information if the NPSS is out of production. It should not be difficult to convert the gun to a conventional spring if you like the gun but the gas spring is no longer available. If you can only find a standard length spring and guide, shortening either is not a major challenge.

I'd rather keep it as a ram. Might call Crosman on Monday to see if the rams for the Remington NP22 fit. The NPSS was the premier Crosman gas piston gun made in USA. I'm not sure if the NP22 is a short stroke or not. Anyway, the new in the box Remington NPSS I was looking at dropped out of sight so there's no rush.

I still have one of the first ones my son keeps it, I did replace the ram years ago. You can still buy parts. If you remember Gene was makeing kits for them that would center the ram. David

I don't see a schematic parts list on the Crosman website. Have seen some older posts that the original rams are not available. Don't know if the rams were built here in the USA or imported from China and then assembled. Tomorrow I will give them a call to see what options are available.

I have on of the original NPSS .22 with the "soft touch" stock.
Was gonna sell it at the PAE, went to box it up and the piston is weak. Didnt shoot it for a couple years (maybe longer) so cant say if its the non-use or it just expired
Called Crosman, they dont have a replacement, and the folks they suggested didnt have one either. Id bet though that somewhere out there is a gas piston "made elsewhere" that will fit it.

The Russians who sell on Fleabay list one. Of course, they appear to list a piston for everything. I read a post where someone tried one (different gun) and reported it shot slower and was harder to cock.
