Changed the slug from a spire point to a HP by modding the mold. First two cavities, then all four. Pic with slug in hole. 1 shot to settle the reg., then 10 on target at 80 yards. As you can see, the target states cherry picked and was just that. the Brownell's liner was very accurate, but not ever group was this good. However, the FX Barrel seems to do this on a regular basis like clockwork. A squirrels eye at 80 yards is a given. There are two size cavities here. One for long range accuracy, and one made to fragment for vermin in the area. One gives a very nice mushroom, one fragments nicely. Knife

Ric, yes, choke removed. It was terrible with the choke. Matt Dubber said they had to have a choke to shoot well. Odd, Never once heard that regarding shooting slugs. But then again, He and FX are still nubies at this new fangled Slug Shooting thing. LOL!!!
With that kind of accuracy; you now have a problem.... Do you take headshots on the scorpions, or do you shoot center mass? Definitely a big thank you to all the pioneers of AG slugs; the things being done today are just amazing. Keep up the good work,Jesse

Odd, Never once heard that regarding shooting slugs. But then again, He and FX are still nubies at this new fangled Slug Shooting thing. LOL!!! You are both right! If you shoot slugs with diameters right close to barrel groove diameter, they do better without a choke. If your projectiles are one or two thousands of an inch under groove diameter, then they tend to shoot better through a mild choke. Philosophically, it makes no sense to me to shoot projectiles that never contact the barrel's groove diameter. So your approach feels like the correct one to me. Obviously what matters is what combination of barrel and projectile shoot well. That satisfied, all arguments drop away. If a given barrel shoots more projectile variants well, then that is a "good barrel". If it is projectile fussy, then it is harder to call it a good barrel - unless it is a qualified statement.I am surprised that FX's system of skinny liner, suspended by a few O-rings works as well as it does. If I had one of the FX barrel liner systems I would be tempted to double the number of O-rings supporting the liner...I think the reason FX Factory likes a little choke at the muzzle is because it relaxes the requirements for making the rest of the liner completely parallel, with no risk of flaring at the muzzle. So, a higher yield of barrels that shoot well. So, as with most things, the devil is in the details. Choked means restricted at the muzzle, but it does not have to mean restricted like many a Crosman barrel.
I'm afraid that the FX Heavy liner is even more restrictive than the Crosman. The choke is .005. .218 barrel, and a .214 to .213 choke. Ouch!

Mike, congratulations! That my friend is a lot of work to find “THE 1 SLUG” that a barrel likes! I think you hit slug/barrel nirvana! No need for further testing,...just SHOOTING! Enjoy throwing laser guided heat!
Clem, are you referring to the Slug Liner before the Superiors? I sure would like to try one! Sadly, just a little difficult for me. Knife/Mike
Had thought of trying a slug A liner as well. But are all of FX’S liners choked? I just slugged my liner again paying way closer attention to details. I’m getting .2435” out the choke. I sized a slug to .244” and did a full push through from breech to muzzle. Still got tight in the muzzle choke section. The lands come out at .248” in the breech area. Need to get the actual bore diameter. I know I could still see light around a .250” sized slug when seated in the breech of the superior liner.
Knife, how much did you cut off the fx barrel to remove the choke ?
Ric, I lost nearly 1 1/2 inch so you are spot on. Too long, too tight! Only thing I can figure with Matt Dubber's statement that they absolutely have to be choked is that he seriously missed something. A Big Something!Jimmy, Thanks Guy!!! The Brownell's is only about 35 bucks and a stellar shooter! (Not with pellets however) And Remember Lead and Bore Grease! (Inside joke Folks. No Grease was harmed in the test).Thank You Clem! I'll eventually pony up and try one. Jimmy, the Brownell's is far less slug picky. I do need to re-visit the 1-16 Brownell's liner again. It shot poorly with my slut, but since the FX has the same twist, I need to test it again. https://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/barrel-tools/barrel-liners/22-caliber-rimfire-barrel-liners-prod10974.aspx
