Ok I have a string of springers and powder burners. Almost all of my scopes are either AO or side focus. I only occasionally hunt and my options have greatly dwindled in the last two years. What I have come across, is no matter what range I see my quarry my scope will be set for a very different range and the target will be out of focus. Or I'm zoomed in too much and I can't find it. I've lost more shots than I can count while adjusting the zoom or focus. Plus all the additional movements often spook the animal.
My go to hunting springer is my 177 Hw50 and it currently wears a 3-9x40 Airmax. It's a great scope but it's a little heavier than I like. That and I lose shots while adjusting the AO or magnification. I would like to find a single power non AO (or side focus) springer rated scope that's small light and will be reasonably in focus from 15 to 50 yards. Also must have a mildot/BDC reticle for hold over/under.
Possible solution would be buy a rimfire scope with a fixed 50 yd parallax. Problem is they're not springer rated and seldom come with mildot style reticles. Plus with a 50 yard fixed focus some 15 yard targets will probably be blurry.
I just bought a straight 4X 32 Hawke Vantage to try. It's only about a half inch shorter but it's almost a half pound lighter. The loss of weight will be most welcome carrying the rifle around. Another nice feature is it has a mildot reticle. The only hiccup is the scope has a fixed focus (parallax) at 100yds.
Here's the gamble. I'm going to try to adjust it in to 35 yards. Right smack dab in the middle of the ranges I use the gun. Most of my hunting shots are well under 50 yds and 4x should be enough magnification. It will be nice to point and shoot and have a scope that I don't have to mess with. When stalking I've generally kept my scopes zoomed out between 3x & 5x. Having a fixed 4x should be fine.
If this works out I'll be really happy. The Hw50 is a great compact hunting gun and it deserves a simple light scope that compliments that function.

I have done that with cheap scopes for 10 yards can get ok out to 20 and down to 5 great for low power co2 / pumpers.
Hope is is the ticket for your use 8)

When I am hunting I have a reasonable idea of how far the shot is going to be. So I adjust accordingly beforehand.
Instead of buying a new scope, why don't you set your current scope to 35 yards A/O and 5-6 x magnification and see if this works for you? ???
