I see that photos can be posted from a cell phone but have absolutely no idea how to do it. I have a run of the mill Samsung phone and A Microsoft computer program. Nothing fancy. I think it is windows 7 that has been updated. Is there a list of instructions on how to do it. It needs to be like press button A then C then -- something that a computer dunce can follow.
I can send photos via email (sometimes)

A problem that has plagued me since I signed up. I have to relearn everytime I want to post a photo…

I use the Lit Photo app. It's free, it is easy to use and fast! It will produce another image , but greatly compressed to meet GTA's criteria.
Go to the app store. Download the app. Once open, select compress photo. A screen well open up with all the photos on your phone. Select the image you want. It'll bring you to another screen, where you select the amount of compression. It is defaulted at 80%, which is what I use. Select compress. It'll let you know if it was successful or not.
The new compressed image will now be on your phone's hard drive. For Samsung, you should be able to easily access it in the photo gallery as well.
Now, when you want to upload it into a post on GTA, just use this new image.
It's actually a lot easier than it sounds.
The picture will appear low quality, but when you click on it, the high quality image will appear in full screen.
-
I use the Lit Photo app as well.
Another way is to simply send yourself the picture in a text, your phone will automatically resize the photo. Then click in the picture that you have sent yourself and save it into downloads. You can attach the picture in GTA from that resized download.
The picture below started out at 2.13 Mb but after my phone resized it it's now 196.2 KB.

That's a great idea, Dan! Super easy, and no additional app to install.

Oh dear, I have a head ache already but I am going to give a good try. Stand by for follow up questions.

Apologies for adding to your headache, but this is the one I use https://postimages.org/. It is free, it creates the link and copies it to your clipboard and all you have to do is paste it into your forum reply.

The issue with these link type photo posting methods, is that if the photo hosting site goes under, your image will no longer be shown in the posts you've placed it into.
The pictures I posts here are mine, and will stay forever, unless the power-that-be at GTA removes it.

Exactly... I do not use hosting sites. I don't even use the cloud.

That is a very good point and honestly, I never thunk it!

Hugh...is the problem you are having that the files are too large, or do you need to know how to post a photo that is already small enough?
-
Well… I just tried the “mail the pic to yourself” hack, again… I’m not sure why… I guess it’s like randomly running into your ex after a couple years, and hit it off again; forgetting why she’s your ex… Needless to say, it didn’t allow me to post the pic, therefore why bother with the thread… Seriously… I know I’m heaping the dust of a horse long dead, and beating it, and lighting it afire, but… It’s 2021… With all the changes we, the board, and the world have gone through… Is there really no way to just post a pic from our phones?
Seriously folks. It’s 2021, and the phones are only going to get better. The files are going to continue to grow in size, and people are going to rely on their phones more than ever to take pics; which is already the number one way people take pics now. By a gargantuan margin…
Siiigh… I give up. Again. It’s just not worth the effort. Rant off…

Did you resize it when you emailed it to yourself? That is the purpose of sensing it to yourself. Texting should do the same automatically.

I must not have. Otherwise it would have worked? I don’t know how you’ve had the patience to answer this same question all these years… I mostly read now. Still love airgunning though. But I’ve never had the acumen to earn my Black Belt in GTA photo attachment theory… It just shouldn’t be this difficult to post a pic. And it’s been this way since I joined. It’s not gonna become easier for the forum as tech continues to grow. The gulf is only going to continue to widen. With the prospective audience the only one in motion. I’m sure in the future I’ll have an airgun moment that inspires me to get my 12 point Kata down just so I can post from an ordinary device that’s three years old. But today isn’t that day. I just don’t know how you do it… Patience runs strong in you. And the board, and membership are better for it…

All I have is my cellphone. Did you download the Lit Photo app? I have a Samsung S7 and I attach all my photos using either the b]Lit Photo[/b] app or a picture that I texted myself. I'm sorry you're having such difficulty.

Pictures sent by email are typically not compressed. So, no, it won't work.
I use my cell phone for taking pictures, surfing the web, hanging out on GTA, and, yes, posting the pictures I've taken on my phone and directly posting it here. So, yes, you can absolutely post pictures directly from your phone onto GTA posts.

That's not typical. Most email software just defaults to the actual size. There's usually an option to change it, but you would have to manually do it.

Interesting....that is not only on my phones, but my computer as well.
-
I have a Galaxy S10 and it has a resize feature in "gallery". However, i find when i post a pic from my phone, it comes out 90° from the way its taken. Even if i rotate it first, it still posts sidways.

trial photo.

Well that part worked. That was posting a photo that I already had in the photo folder of my laptop.
Next I have to work out how to get photos from my cell phone onto the laptop.
I tried taking a photo from my cell phone gallery and putting it onto the forum using the forum that I could bring up on the cell phone internet. It didn't work and what it did try was unbelievably slow. Will try again. Seems it would be better to put cell phone photos onto the lap top photo folder.
At least a little progress has been made but not there yet..

Have a look at the photo quality setting you have your phone set to. The higher the quality it's set to, the higher the file size will be.
I send all my phone pics to my laptop and use "Snipping Tool" in Windows 7 and above to resize before posting.
-
Next I have to work out how to get photos from my cell phone onto the laptop.
Email is how I send my cell phone pics to my laptop. This way it retains the quality/resolution of the original image. However, if I'm sending a lot of pictures, I use a different method.......but, that's opening a more complicated can of worms.

You did it, Hugh!
Now, I want to see pics of all those tasty, yummy foods you're always mentioning ;)

another try.
That didn't work. Don't hold your breath Xraycer. There is a lot to learn yet to be proficient .

Test

It worked, but after texting the photo to myself it was Still 2.1Mb (too big) but my iPhone had an option to resize the image smaller before I posted it, so it worked for me.

To do what? Transfer pictures from phone onto computer/laptop?

That's what I do too. And if I need to transfer a bunch of them, the usb to the phone.
Glad you guys are making progress Hugh and Charlie.

Well, yeah. That's how I do it. And I resize in the process with the snipping tool. EZ PZ.

EZ PZ is just doing everything on the phone. It takes me about 10sec to load a pic onto a post......from anywhere I have data/wifi access.

The camera on my phone produces high quality pictures and video, but the screen is too small for my impaired vision to deal with, so I transfer the pics to my main computer with a USB cable and process them utilizing my enhanced twenty-seven inch screen. I have several software programs that will resize, but the easiest way for me is to take a screen shot with the snipping tool. :)
-
Lit photo here.
Gave up on hosting sites after loosing 1500 pics on "webshots" then another massive amount on "Photo-bucket" held for ransom. Last attempt was "imgur" but on a phone it's app blows.
Just use Lit photo to resize to 30% and attach direct here.

All due respect my young friend but there is nothing EZ PZ about using them teeny tiny keys on a cell for for a half blind, sausage fingered guy like me....
I actually have a blue tooth keyboard on my desk for texting at my co workers at work.

Oh, gotcha! Yeah, I can understand that. I have a large cell phone and even then, it can be quite tough with certain web pages. GTA is fine for me though. My phone has a built in stylus, should I need it :D

Dinh....
In your second screen shot...
I am seeing a common trend.

I finally just started texting them to myself (which my computer can receive the texts) and then I just resize the pics on the computer that way, and post from the computer.

With my laptop on the blink, my Samsung Galaxy S7 is my ONLY was to access GTA and post pictures. We do what we half to do.
-
Like Dan said back on the first page, texting the image to myself had always worked great. Once I receive it, I select the image from my text app and save it to my phone. When I open the GTA uploader it's always right on top to be selected and uploaded. I'm using an Android phone.
-
Heck I do not even remember my GTA password to use my phone to do that stuff, I view as guest when going through GTA withdrawal. ;D

Storage costs, that's why there's a limit. I guess there could be a premium membership where the member pays extra to be able to post larger pictures.
-
I just used the resize function of the built-in editor.
-
What is the resize function of the built in editor,. Built into what. Every time I try to post a newly snapped photo it says it can't do whatever it should do because the file is too big or takes to long to load. This is like trying to learn Russian from a Chinese text book.
-
Hugh.... the forum has size limits on pictures you can post. Many cameras and cell phone are set to take higher quality pictures. There are 2 ways to fix this...
1) Reduce the quality settings on your camera or phone.
2) Resize the picture size with one of several options.
-
Thank you Avatar. I am going to tackle the game from the cell phone end. If I can work that part out. Maybe even try Jo's tablet.
-
Also, as noted above, you can email the photos to yourself from the cell and access your email on the tablet... they will resize for you.

Not every cell phone camera will have the option to set the resolution size small enough to meet GTA's size limit. Mine doesn't.

Not necessarily. Not every email software is defaulted to do this. Mine doesn't, and I use 4 different email software accounts. They all send my attachments at full resolution, and it was not something I had programmed it to do. It was just defaulted this way
I believe Hugh, mentioned on another thread that he already tried this method and it didn't work.
-
Could be true.... IIRC everyone that I know has done it and it did resize. Guess they'll just have to try it and see.

I have an LG phone with Android platform, and my email automatically offers the option to resize when I send attachments. When I type in the email address, this "box" pops up, and if I choose the smallest option (25%), it actually shrinks it down even more than that.

Currently, I've been using the LG Stylo series now for the past few years, my email attachments gets sent in full resolution. It's defaulted this way, because it's not something I've had set.
-
I have a Moto G power running android 11. I'm using the Gmail app, and I don't see any option related to resizing.

In that case, texting the photos to yourself may be the easier option. As far as i know, photos always get resized down when texting.
-
Eddie it sounds like you just need to download the Lit Photo app and compress the photos down to around 300 kb..
-
Yep, I too have a Moto G and it takes 3-4M pics on it's lowest resolution setting and has no "editor", no way to resize via email either.
I had to go with Lit.
Using that I reduce them down to 30% in order to attach here.

That's what I do. I learned that trick from someone on a PB forum several years ago. Works like a charm.

Thanks Dan and Scott! I've got too much junk on this phone now. I need to go through a delete some of the useless apps and pictures I've acquired, and I might have room for another app. :D
-
Hmm... Turns out I already have Lit Photo. I have no idea when I downloaded it. I'll just blame CRS. ;D
