Title: Williams WGRS-54 Peep For My R-7 & R-9
Post by: Ragboat on January 09, 2019, 11:04:44 AM
Last year I attempted to use a WGRS-54 on my R7, found it was too low so gave up and took the FP-AG  off  my Ruger Blackhawk and have been using it on my R7.
After buying the R9 from Dairyboy this fall I decided try the WGRS-54 again, this time with a 4mm riser from TEC-HRO.
The risers fit the rifles fine but had to have a local gunsmith trim a little off the top dovetail so the WGRS-54 would fit.

They are both mounted and zeroed in and working great now.

Thats great!

No problems with the sight and/or riser moving with the recoil?

Where did you purchase the risers from?

How do you make windage and elevation adjustments on the sight?

Thanks!

Williams makes the WGRS a little on the tight side on purpose. The lack of TRUE standardization between dovetails makes that a need.
Brownell's sells the dovetail files (two safe sides and one "live" side).
IDEALLY, the WGRS should be fitted in such a way that the base needs to be tapped in lightly with a plastic mallet.
Properly degreased dovetails and a good fit and they will not move.

Good shooting!

I bought the risers from Oberle Enterprises in Hudson Co, he sells 10 meter competition stuff.

I have had no problem with them moving from recoil.

Here is another picture that shows the adjustments, the screw on the side lets the sight slide up and down for elevation
and the screw on top lets it slide for windage.

The riser mounts with two set screws, I have it back where the back screw is at the back of the tube to get it closer to my eye
but it could be moved more forward.

So if I replay to this old post will it all come back up for all to see how I mounted WGRS 54 sight on my R7 & R9?

There you go Bayman, this is my old thread. I don't have pictures of the riser and sight moved up even the tube.

The only problem I have is the comb on the R9 is little high making it a little uncomfortable to use but I make it work.

Here is a picture of The WGRS 54 on my R7 that is moved forward on the tube, I think it looks better and works fine.

I first tried an 8mm riser and found that was to much.

With the 4mm riser I have the elevation set about on the middle mark or just above it, which gives me some adjustment in both
directions for elevation.  I think with out a riser I think you would be maxed out in one direction and have no adjustment in the other.

So to recap, the WGRS Savage 54 peep site doesnt fit the 4mm TEC-HRO riser too well and has to be fitted by using some files. Once fitted it will work nicely with the stock HW front sight height.-Is this correct? Just how bad is the fit to start with? Does it start on the risers dovetail at all?

I had a gunsmith trim a little off the top dove tail to make it work.
So no it is a little more than just filing to make it fit.
Be careful not to take off to much, mine fit a little lose but the set screw holds them in place and they work fine.

So I am thinking we need someone with 3D printing skills to make some 4mm risers that will work with the WGRS 54 sight and 11mm airgun dovetails without having to file or machine them to fit.
Can it be done?
