Title: Rules and Target for 50 Feet Casual Rifle Match
Post by: Big_Bill on September 07, 2010, 03:20:31 PM
Here we have a proposal for a NEW, Super Casual Match by timegoat (Mark).
I like the structured matches, but thought it might be fun to have an anything goes match... anything but a gun vice that is.

Many targets to choose from for this match...but not that confusing really.  Targets sheets are for scoped or "Open Sights" airguns, just choose the one that matches your caliber: "45" for 0.177 (4.5mm); "55" for 0.20 or 0.22 (5.5mm); or "635" for 0.25 (6.35mm) caliber.

Scope Sights:
MOA15_50FTx12_45.pdf (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=22530.0;attach=68766),  MOA15_50FTx12_55.pdf (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=22530.0;attach=68767),  MOA15_50FTx12_635.pdf (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=22530.0;attach=68768)

Open Sights Black Center Options:
MOA15_50FTx6_45Blk.pdf (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=22530.0;attach=68769),  MOA15_50FTx6_55Blk.pdf (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=22530.0;attach=68770)

Rules:
1) Shot at 50 feet;

2) Any position you like including bench rest, prone, sitting, kneeling, mono pod, bi pod, etc...;

3) Any rifle or even pistol if you want;

4) Any scope or open sights, red dot, shooting from the hip, whatever;

5)(a) 2 shots at each of the 12 major bulls on the scoped sights targets, drop the lowest  2 scoring bulls for a total possible score of 200/200. Kinda like when the teacher would drop the lowest test score when figuring the final grade.  You may also shoot 1 shot at each of the 12 bulls on two 12 bull target sheets and post both sheets; however, you must drop the same two bulls on both target sheets.

5)(b) If you prefer the 6 bull targets designed for fixed sights, shoot two consecutive targets intended as a single match entry for a total of 12 bulls (still dropping the two lowest scoring bulls), or four shots per bull on one target and drop only one lowest scoring bull (less advantageous, but your choice);

6) Except for scores of "X", shots are scored according to the highest value of the target scoring zone or ring that is touched by a circle centered over the shot with a diameter equal to the pellet caliber designated for the target.  A scoring gauge or the head of a wad-cutter pellet comes in handy for this (the pellet skirt may be too large), or just determine this circle using the hole in the target made by the shot as best you can.  If any part of a scoring ring (demarcation line between the scoring zones) is touched by this circle, including even the outside edge of the scoring ring line, the shot is scored the higher value of the two scoring zones.  In order to score an "X," the center 10 ring dot on the "45" target for 0.177 (4.5mm) caliber must be completely obliterated, or the larger gray ring around the smaller 10 ring dot must be completely obliterated on the "55" and "635" targets for 0.22 and 0.25 caliber (5.5mm and 6.35mm);

7) No time limit;

8 ) Please indicate the match name, match number and the date the match was shot;

9) Please post the following information for your entry with your scanned target:

Name
Class
Rifle
Sights
Caliber and Pellet
Position
Score
Other details to share

10) Target sheet must not have been used (or to be used) in another match.  It must have been shot during the inclusive dates for the applicable match number.

11) Rule Change Effective Match #6, Yr. 3
Each shooter can post an entry in one or more the following classes:  PCP, Piston (spring or air piston) and pistol.  Up to three entries per competitor per match, but a maximum of one entry per competitor per class.

Anyone wishing to try it out, or shoot this match, is encouraged to do so.  See if you like it!

Kudos to Random Plinker/Eric for designing and modifying the target sheets to fit our needs.

Mitch, I don't know for certain, but I'm guessing a posting thread will pop up in the Shooting Match gates soon enough. Standard GTA rules will apply, one target per shooter per match, and the current matches end on Sept 26th.

So, shoot it as much as you want till the 26th, and post your single best target then.

I sometimes post a target to a match a day or two earlier if I know I'm gonna spend the rest of the time shooting something else.

It seems like this match has been a bit lost for about a year....took me awhile to find the rules again this morning.

I would sure like to see it catch on..  This distance and position freedom could
really be fun.

If we could get this listed on the Shooting Matches page, maybe more shooters would be aware of, and try this match.

Hope others will give it a try.

This looks fun.....how come I've never looked into this. Looks like I'll try to get some shooting done before the 26th. Thanks for the great target link and for re-introducing these self-matches. Very Cool.

This thread is about a trial match that some are trying to get into the rotation of
other regular shooting matches listed in the Shooting Match Gates.

For the majority of the regular matches  we all shoot where ever we are.
Home, nearby range, ...ie any safe place to put up  some targes at a specified
distance.   These are called on-line matches.

You can just go to the rules page for each match listed in the Shoot Match Rules gate,
pick which tasks  you want to shoot in, download and print the  appropriate target,
and shoot the task as outlined.

Rules gate.
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/board,17.0.html (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/board,17.0.html)

Example  10yd open standing offhand match;
http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,55.0.html (http://www.gatewaytoairguns.org/GTA/index.php/topic,55.0.html)

After shooting the match post your shooting info, score and if possible a picture of your target.;
select  'Shooting Match Gates'   then   '10 yard open rifle offhand match'...
then 'Post open rifle match'  select most current match,  the deadline will be shown at the top of each "post" selection.

Here is a link to that match, ending tonight at the strike of 12.

All that is asked is follow the rules and give us your best "Sportsmanship" and honesty.  No score too low, or equipment is unworthy.  I often shoot a 1980 Crosman 766 (now the 2100) and many of us use the 1377 pistol for the pistol matches.

Hope this helps.. 8)

Ran out of time to shoot this target today.  It looks like another good challenge. I will practice this target later in the week and will try to shoot it in the next match session.

Thanks Daysailer for the heads up on this match.

amb, that's some good shooting there.  Maybe one day I'd shoot this match....I've too many matches to shoot already.  This match looks fun.....and it'll let me shoot another bench rested match.

UPDATE  UPDATE  UPDATE

The 50 ft. Casual Rifle have its own sticky thread now in the "Rifle" section.  No need to go looking for it under the pistol matches.

For this match I believe there's 12 targets.  Shoot 2 shots per target, add the points of each target, cancel 2 targets with the lowest points and you'll be left with 10 targets and a total of 20 shots.  So you'll have a maximum of 200 points.
