Title: Jack Lewis RIP-Crown Saver Will Live On
Post by: jonnnyboy on March 05, 2014, 11:56:45 AM
Jack Manley Lewis, 65, of Briggstown Road, passed away Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House after an illness of six months.

Mr. Lewis was born in Guilford County on Oct. 13, 1948, to Lacey Andrew Lewis and Virginia Nichols Lewis (Lafferty). He was retired from the Long Beach Naval Ship Yard and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an excellent marksman, using his skills to help keep the squirrel population in his neighborhood under control and was affectionately known as "The Squirrel Man." He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Wayne Lewis and sister Lynda King.

Surviving are son Danny Lewis of Orange, Calif.; daughter Jill Coppin (Scott) of Vancouver, Wash.; grandchildren Cassidy Foster, Jonah Coppin, Annaliese Coppin, Madeleine Lewis, Mariella Lewis and Joseph Daniel Lewis; and nephews Joey King and Michael "Magoo" King and their father, Howard King.

This obituary was from the local paper in Lexington NC

Jack will be missed. He was one of the good guys. His son Danny(JD) is also a good guy and plans on carrying on the Crown Saver Tradition. I could not tell you how long the Crown Saver has dominated the Airgun Barrel Cleaning Tool Market but it has been decades and it sells all over the world to the best shooters.

Just to share one of Jack's creations. It is a .20 with a shrouded barrel.

Got to talk to him a little couple of years ago when I bought a few Crown Savers. Real nice guy.
Prayers sent.

I hate to read these. I really do. Although this is not new, my prayers are still with the family.

I am saddened to hear of his passing.

I worked with Jack for several years in the Gyro Shop at Long Beach Naval Shipyard. A finer mechanic and machinist never lived.

I have one of his early crown savers in my gun cleaning box. He gave it to me and explained why it was a better way to clean your barrels.

As I recall, he got quite a bit of work out here shooting squirels. His true passion was air rifles and was continually working to perfect them.

I even had occasion to shoot with him out at Prado Dam once.

Again, I'm saddened to hear . . .
