I installed a new spring and piston seal in the rifle. I've done this before with no issue. The flat metal "spring" is in the stock that keeps cocking arm aligned. Put the gun together. When cocking the gun while pulling on the barrel it won't "catch". Took it apart, nothing seems amiss? Put it back together. Still won't stay cocked and catch the sear. I have been inside quite a few break barrel airguns so the mechanics are not new to me. Anyone have a suggestion? The only other thing I can think of is trying to bend the metal strip(spring) that is in the stock as to increase the pressure on the cocking arm while cycling through cocking effort? Thanks

There is a small coil spring that fits in a hole in the trigger and in a hole in the sear. It is easy for this to pop out of one of the holes and get mangled.
Another option is to check for coil binding with your new spring. If it's too long the piston can't travel back far enough for the piston rod to catch the sear.

Thanks for the ideas and you were pretty much correct, I feel kinda silly. I had used a spring with about 5 more coils than previous one but similar length. more coils plus top hat or what ever its called all took up more room with same cocking distance. The small trigger spring was in place. Trigger is very light with predictable clean break. I used a shorter stock spring guide which provided more room for main spring compression. Gun cocks and shoots 625 with 7.9 wad cutters dead calm, very easy cocking. Only shot 6 shots but there was only 2 fps spread. Will be testing it more but am very pleased. New piston seal was added when I changed the original spring. I had 2 of these guns from early 2000's. Each one had a very different spring (different number of coils and thickness of the wire) and differing length and configuration of spring guide. Really well designed, rugged steel construction. Many chasing fps/power at all cost don't realize what a gem they are.

You're welcome and I'm glad you got it fixed. I've experimented with springs in my 634 and learned that lesson the hard way.
You're right about these being gems. I have two - one full power and one I tuned down to about 7 fpe. What an easy-cocking sweet-shooting rifle.

Eric, your rifle is shooting about 15 feet per second faster than mine. I suppose mine has the original spring.
