Nice shooting on that big rat Mr. Randall! You definitely hit the off button on him.
Nice shot Randall!
Great shot Randall! Glad you are getting some action at the bait site.Don't worry about not letting him have a taste of his last meal before the shot. It's us or them! I am working on a dark colored groundhog. We have been playing cat & mouse for a couple of days. Unfortunately he is super-skittish and has bionic hearing! I start opening the window or the side door downstairs, and he hears the slightest noise from 25 yards out and takes off.

And, I don't feel too bad about his non existent last meal! LOL! Boy, I hope you get that dark ghog soon! Have you put an apple in his path!? Seen guys do that for ghogs and it stops them dead in their tracks like a fly to poo! LOL!
Excellent lobotomy skills Randall! Glad he came back for his free last meal!
Nice one Randall !!!
Great shot Randall! I seem to be going through another dry spell, and will have to live vicariously through your adventures! Hope to see more!

Seen guys do that for ghogs and it stops them dead in their tracks like a fly to poo! LOL!My wife doesn't buy apples in the summer, only watermelon/melon, peaches, apricots, etc. that are in season up here But... I did put out lettuce which they like too, and that's what he was munching on at 8am this morning. A slight noise from the door hinge and he took off and never came back to it! I have greased the hinges now and hopefully will get a shot off if and when he comes back. He may not be back for a week or more. He is def. one of those difficult ones that has a heightened sense of survival and his surroundings, but I like the challenge I have actually been after him since late June or early July when I first spotted him. His burrow is across the street but he comes over now and then. He 's gotten lucky a couple of times too because I had the crosshairs almost on his head, but a neighbor decided to come out with his 6 year old and walk to their mailbox one time and the G-hog heard them talking, and the other time a car drove by. Most groundhogs would not have moved or gone far when these 2 things happen, because they are usually pretty far from a neighbor's mailbox and never close to the road, but about 1 in 15 are super sensitive to human voices, car sounds, and moving cars, when others just get used to them and go about their business after a brief pause/freeze as long as those sounds are at a distance.

LOL! I was getting pretty spoiled with that steady stream of rats I had going for awhile there. Hopefully, once the weather starts to cool off a little, they will be back. Quite honestly, it's too hot for me to be sitting out on the grassy knoll waiting for a shot this time of year, so I guess those rats are just taking pity on me!
Great shot on that biggie...take that you rat!!!
