Nice! I lost at least four watermelons overnight. I suspect a Ghog has moved in, again. I'll introduce my .30 Impact to it soon, so it'll feel more comfortable, lol.
That was one clean and quick dispatchment of a groundhog.

I've seen evidence where deer would stomp melons and eat them! You might need something more than .22.

There are plenty in the yard at times. I saw a squirrel eating one of the red tomatoes on a branch yesterday. I'm thinking an electric wire around the garden is needed for the garden's active years. My garden is supposed to be on a seven-year rest this year (Exodus 23:10-11), but I had a lot of volunteers pop up, so the watermelons and tomatoes are free to the animals this year anyways (Leviticus 25:5 Do not reap what grows of itself or harvest the grapes of your untended vines. The land is to have a year of rest). I will not be shooting anything bothering the garden right now. It's tempting though but I know I won't do it.

We will be planting our second fall garden in a few weeks. Going to be starting seeds with a "soil blocker" instead of trays this year.
