Liking my new Gamo

I never owned a full size Gamo rifle, and I'm a wood and steel guy, so I was happy to find a nice deal on an older 440 with exceptional wood and bluing.
It felt like it had hardly been shot- boingy and harsh at 900+ fps with midweights. I took 5 minutes to drop a lightly tarred Merlin spring in it, and it is easier to cock, twangless, and a bit less jumpy at 800fps. I didn't do anything else to the powerplant yet because I wanted to see what the spring alone would do. I noticed the Merlin fit much tighter on the Gamo rear guide than it did on a Crosman B19.
I have a GRT III trigger that works well in this Gamo, adjusting to a safe, fairly crisp, two stage pull. The same blade had the hair trigger problem with 3 Crosmans I tried it on, so I'm glad I finally found a good home for it.
Accuracy is very good to excellent with FTT 4.50 and JSB 8.44, and respectable with Wal-Mart CPHP.
Anyway, the gun looks great and shoots great, so I thought I'd show it off.

A fine instrument indeed! I'm more of a synthetic guy, but there are some absolutely gorgeous guns in wood format.
Yours is one.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
James, your 890 sounds like a great gun. Is it sub 12fpe? The Russian seals are good?
I think I'd like my 440 even more in .22.

Hi dan ,,yeah i really think the seals are better than Gamo original seals as they're a bit like weihrauch parachute seals they also up the power which means you can lose the piston weight to reduce recoil ,you also get 2 seals for less money than 1 Gamo seal ,they're that good the range master at my club uses them on his airarms prosport now, and yeah its sub 12ft (just) mate

Great looking Gamo and excellent shape! It should be pretty accurate @ 800fps. How old do you think the 440 is?
