Hot shooting was an understatement, by the time the last shooters finished the match, the thermometer was pushing 106. My rifle was so hot I could barely hold it, and it was stored in a padded case between lanes! As the temperatures rose throughout the match so did the winds, reaching normal Ione speeds early on in the match. In spite of the conditions 15 hardy shooters showed up to try and figure out the tricky Sac Valley winds.
I had decided earlier this month to move the match from the comfort of the shaded concrete pads and the flat ground that made for simple course set up out to the 200 meter silhouette berm. The move was intended to add some variety to the match allowing for various elevated shots and targets set in the weeds. It accomplished this objective as the course was much more fun to shoot, but at the cost of more time consuming and demanding set up. Talk about bad timing.
Anyway with that backdrop 15 air rifle enthusiasts braved the conditions and showed up at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center to participate in the June field target match. I guess the only consolation was it was a dry heat! Many of the competitors struggled with the heat and windy conditions and everyone got a chance to learn to dope the wind. Team USFT JimW and ChrisM had one of their typical battles and ended up tying for the high score of the day with 43/50. Chris was kind enough to let Jim know he had to clean his final lane to tie him. Jim calmly made all 4 shots. The duo concluded that a tie was just fine with them as no one wanted to shoot any more after the course tear down.
We finished the day with some lunch and proceeded to polish off most of the large supply of water and sodas we had on hand. I think everyone was happy to get in their air-conditioned vehicles and head for home.
I want to thank everyone who arrived early enough to help with the course set up, without your help we wouldn't be having these matches.
The final results for the 50 shot match are as follows

Yessir, that was some of the hottest shooting I've ever done and I don't mean in a good way.
About halfway through the match my POI shifted to I-don't-know-where and my rear end was getting burnt from the bucket lid. As if things couldn't get worse, the notorious Ione winds chimed in to turn turn the match into a convection oven
I felt sorry for my 11 yr old daughter who came to observe the entire match and at the end she asked if she could shoot next time, I think we'll have a new shooter soon.
Thank you, Jim! As always things were very organized and went smoothly because of you

I did not shoot near as well as I should have, and have an interesting tan line on my head from my cap to boot.
good time was had dispite the heat.
Niko let little miss know she is welcome to shoot the p-rod I brought....just so she wont have to shoot with the pogo stick crew
Btw don't let anyone say "but its a dry heat" 113 degree with 15 mph gusts not worthy.
