Sacramento Valley Field Target Match Report - Nov. 13, 2016

Well the curtain fell on the 2016 season at the Sacramento Valley Field Target Club and we were blessed with an absolutely gorgeous fall day. Temperatures were in the 70's, the winds were barely blowing and our greatest challenge was dealing with the relentless sun. We had a wonderful turnout of 24 shooters competing for the most sought after prize of all, cash!
Our October match was the shooter appreciation match where all who attended participated in a drawing for some great prizes and everyone went home with something. The November match was the shootout at the OK corral. Two divisions, Piston and PCP, the best scores win the prizes (4 places in PCP and 3 in Piston). We set up a challenging course and let the shooters have at it. There was just enough of a breeze that the shooters had to think about it, which was just enough to cause some of us to whiff a couple of shots. The Troyer rating for the course was 30.4 and presented a good challenge for the field.
There were some great scores turned in by the usual suspects. The Piston guys all felt their hopes dim a little when RizM showed up with his piston rifle (he is planning on shooting piston in the worlds next year). But when the last target fell it was the sneaky old guy FredB who shot an outstanding 48/58 to eek out a one point win in the Piston Class, RizM finished second after winning a shoot off with CharlieL That was some great shooting by the Piston guys.
In the PCP division I was able to shoot my best match of the season and won the class with a score of 56/58. After a disappointing State of CA match it looks like I have removed the gremlins from my beloved Steyr and it is back to the amazing rifle it has always been. RonnieE shot an excellent 54 for second place, followed by SonL in third with a 53 and the always tough LonnieS with a score of 52 for fourth place.
The match was followed by a great lunch of pulled pork sandwiches, chips and cookies which was enjoyed by all.
I would like to thank everyone who shoot a match with us this year for your support and help. We had a great season, meet a lot of new friends and we look forward to doing it all again next year. See you all in March.
Jim in Sacramento

Thank you for hosting the match Jim and Scott. It was a lot of fun. However, I do have to respectfully disagree with the Troyer rating. It felt like it was in the low hundreds.
My congrats to all the winners, especially the piston guys - they REALLY had to work hard for those scores!!!
Looking forward to next year...
