Stever,  that is exactly what I was going to do. Then I met Steve and decided to go with his skills , plus it is being done with maple which is my favorite.

i cut all my bench rest stock butts shorter
i even cut a Raw butt down shorter
below is an image of the stock for the 300 i kept stock
and i have drawn lines where i band sawed it then reshaped the bottom to fit the rear rest
