There is a gasket that breaks apart as you open the old style Crosman rifle valves. It leaves a residue that is hard to get off. Any good suggestion on how to get it off?

Using a wd40 bath, I’ve never had an issue cleaning up that exhaust seal from the period 1 valves.
Also, if you drive out the compression chamber...Most people reseal it around the lip with a wax floss.I’ve always been successful using teflon tape instead.
