Eric at Stalwart Arms surprised me with an e-mail last month. He asked if Betty Lou and I would like to test and review his drop in trigger setup in each of our FD-PCP rifles. This is a unigue situation because Betty Lou likes the short setup for smaller hands and I like the long pull. This lends to a long versus short comparison as well as 2 samples being tested side by side. Not only that but, we also have a 3rd FD-PCP which will retain the stock trigger for even further comparison. There are a few differences in the 3 guns.
Betty Lou's gun and the one with the stock trigger are in .177 and setup for plinking and small pesting. Power has been adjusted on these 2 primarily for shot count and flat string.
My gun is in .22 and set more for power with 20 shots at 20 -21 fpe and 4+/-% es. It also has one of Eric's teflon striker in it which he sent me earlier to test.
All three guns have the B-staley o-ring setup.
This is not a review that will contain shot count or string info. That has already been done and posted. This will be a side by side compairison of 3 triggers at 500 shots ea. and the results. Now, I'm not going to sit down and sling 1500 pellets downrange in one evening. What we've done is opened 3 500ct. tins of pellets. 2 CPHP .177 and 1 CPHP .22. We've marked the tins for their respective gun and will shoot each at leisure until the tins are gone. All 3 guns like CPHP and there will be no special treatment. Also, I have done nothing to the stock trigger at all. It's out of box and adjusted for pull length.
Right out of the gate I can tell you that the break on these 2 SA triggers is very crisp and predictable. Stage one is positive stop at stage two. Stage two is a slight squeeze and the pellet rips right out of the receiver in a snap. I like that alot. The stock trigger is a bit spongier.
So..... let the testing begin.....
BTW..... thanks Eric, for considering us for this task. If there are things along the way that you want me to try.. please feel free to instruct.
