I've wanted a fine crosshair reticle, no dot scope, to shoot silhouette and field target. Several $500 units made the cut, but then Hawke released their new air rifle specific offerring. Having had positive experiences with Hawke's customer service, I had to order this one. For those who swear by the half mil dot, it may not be your cup of tea, but I prefer to see the target with minimal obstruction around the crosshairs. The reticle is floating so that the lines, dots and dashes are rather fine. They're a nice compromise of useful but away from the crosshairs and minimally distracting; suits me for both silhouette and field target.
It arrived less than a week later well boxed with sunshade, large side focus wheel, quality lens caps, allen wrenches/lens cap tool, and cleaning clothe. Hawke lists it for $469 but you can beat that by searching around. All the adjustments have that slow, smooth, fluid, feel, the turret click is audible and solid. The white lines are easy to see and one can lock down your zero, no turret caps. The lens caps fine thread on and flip open. You can adjust 'em so they flip open where you prefer. The Hawke scope rings are double allen screw and padded. Their high units aren't as high as my other high scope rings, perhaps 0.2" less, yet still impressive for $30. I'm mixed about using the big SF wheel. It's held on by a small plate with nicely marked yardage and works beautifully. My only caveat is it blocks loading pellets from that side, which I like to do when checking my zero at a benchrest.
Yes the glass is clear fully out to 24X magnification. Out at the range it was flag straight out windy. I calculated a 3" square at 25yds was needed for 1 revolution of the turrets. Only had an old cell phone to photo but you can see the center rings taken out. I'd keep the crosshairs on the upper left target using the turrets to shoot the others with 3 shot groups. Secondly, I placed the crosshairs on the lower right taret and again turned the turrets 1 revolution at at time, to shoot another 3 in each target. My last shot flew off a half inch, shooter error. Good tracking for the turrets and verified later that zero held, at least for my pcp. I did find a little stick hesion when clicking out to 55yd from 45. Tried bypassing the 55yd setting by 6 clicks, then returning. That put the crosshairs and point of impact spot on. I had hoped to forgo the aluminum cat can shim, but it was inserted. No clicking past 55yd and then back needed now, perfect tracking.
The red lit reticle comes in very handy, but only rarely. You'll appreciate it if hunting near dusk, or if some nut puts black netting behind the black chickens at a silhouette shoot. The 35oz maybe too chubby for your setup, for my feather lite S200, it wears the scope well.
I'm pretty jazed that here's a scope that's mid-range priced. I've found a number of 'almost' value priced ones. There's always the top dollar scopes. This baby is a new benchmark for Chinese produced optics, doesn't cost more than your competition air rifle with customer service to insure you get quality support. It comes in variable up to 12X, 16X, and 32X also.
