Shop carefully when selecting Leapers. I THOUGHT their 4-16 X 44 had an etched reticle. Some do, it depends on the model. Mine has a wire reticle and thus far I am unimpressed. I've shipped it back twice and may need a third go. Warmer weather will have me outside shooting again - then I'll find out for sure.
When Dvor has them on sale: Hawke Airmax 4-12x40... can be had for right around $150 (normally $219). Etched glass reticle, 20% wider field of view, designed and built to be used on spring piston air rifles, will focus down a bit under 10 yards and weighs in at 18.4 ounces.Hawke Panorama 4-12x40...can be had for about $165 (normally $270), same wider field of view, same bit under 10 yard focus, springer rated, etched glass IR reticle and even for the IR part, still only weighs in at 19.1 ounces.

You have to read the fine print (Dvor or Optics Planet) and if it doesn't explicitly say Glass Etched reticle, it's not .The wire reticle version is cheaper and can be had for about $115 to $130. You're right, the wire reticle is too fat; for a few $$'s more the Glass Etched is much finer and outstanding for longer distances.Plus, I can shoot in my 13 yard range, whereas most 4x16x44 scopes have a min. focal range of 15 yards.
Hey Guys,I've been shooting my Weihrauch Springers now since about 2016 and have yet to find a better (Best Buy) scope for my longer range shooters than the Leepers 4x12x44 or 4x16x44 scopes. These scopes can be had for $150, weight less than 22 oz., are bullet proof, have glass etched reticles and a 10 yard parallax. Is there anything else that can compete with the above scopes in this price range?I understand Leapers scopes are NOT world class, but pretty good for shooting out to 75/100 yards.

That is almost a pound and a half(of flesh). 18Oz is about as much weight as I want sitting 2 inches above my guns center of gravity...-Y
