Title: georgia airgunners unite!!!
Post by: lillysdad621 on September 30, 2013, 09:01:18 PM
i just moved to the area (Hiram) from Long Island NY, where I helped with a local Field target club as well as a airgun shop sometime deceased now. I am looking to see if anyone is interested in getting together at a local dinner or such and maybe start organizing a "shoot the breeze" day or maybe we can start a field target, HFT, silhouette, 10 meter, bell target friendly league, just to get us together, even if it is for an after noon of plinking and BSing... we can discuss repairs, mods, new releases, and maybe we someone will  have something you want to buy and they want to sell. If anyone is interested please PM me and i'll send you more details... we can also discuss where to meet, or hunt, or just plink right here on this thread. Hope to hear from you soon.

Gabe, you are actually right near FT Nirvana.  Was just at the Ga FT State Championship this past weekend.  The greater ATL area has some true airgun devotees.  We had the Tn bunch come down and when combined with the ATL guys/gal and Al guys had 20 for the shoot.  The match was held in Bremen which is 30 miles from Hiram.  The regular monthly Ga shoot is in Covington, only 60 miles from you.  Then we have our Heflin, Al monthly match and Heflin is only 58 miles from you.  You are now with in an hour of 3 truly great FT ranges.

The next Heflin, AL match is this Saturday, Oct 5th and we'd love to have you stop over.  Here are the GPS coords for the range 33.639856,-85.565913  It is on Evans Bridge Rd, just south of the Cleburn County School.

Gabe, welcome to the Peach state. I live up in North Atlanta, and do a lot of airgun hunting in WMA's up this way. Georgia is an airgun friendly state so you can really enjoy the addiction down here.

what are the rules regarding hunting with airguns? are there any "pest" that do not require a hunting season and we may take any time? any rules in state land???

Airguns are legal for all small game, no restrictions on cal or power. Normal hunting rules for game in GA applies to airguns. Anything that requires a license to hunt requires a hunting license for airgunning as well, so airguns are treated just like .17HMR or .22.

Gabe, I'm waiting on a  confirmation from the Match Director.  If the match is still on the sight in range opens at dawn, shooters meeting at 8:30 and match starts after the meeting.  Remember that Alabama is one hour behind Georgia  :o (at some point this fall the time will be moved to 9:30, likely for the Nov match)

Some of the shooters have lunch at the local BBQ after the match.

I live over close the Birmingham, AL so not your immediate area, but Heflin is an easy 60 mile drive for me.

They likely wouldn't even notice.  Heck the town Mayor shoots with us.

Just plug the GPS coords into Google Maps

33.639856,-85.565913

Hope to see you there :)

who are " the bunch"??? need to get in touch with them!!!!lol.

Post by: SciGuy on October 03, 2013, 02:31:37 PM
Unfortunately, "the bunch" are not on GTA.  They will be at Heflin tho.  There are currently 5 FT shooters in your general area that make it to most matches and  2 of them are going to Nationals later this month.  If you make it to Heflin you will get to meet them.

Check out the web site Airgunning atlanta. The directions to the Covington location will get you to a shoot the third Saturday of each month.

got that address, just it seems like no one has updated that site in years, and the contact info is useless, as one number is disconnected and the other no one answers. I would like to get confirmation that they are having the shoots before i trek into unknown ranges. or at least know that other people are there too (though it never stopped me before to set up a lane or two and have a solo FT match against my own pass scores...lol)

... airgun.sniper: if you want and if it is convenient with you we can meet up somewhere in between the range and our places and we can ride together into Bama... so there will be 2 shooters in the south woods of that school that the swat team will need to flush out...lol.

The MD at Heflin is Paul Oswalt.  Best way to get info is to get on his email list.  Drop him an email at [email protected]

Once you are on the list, Paul is very good about keeping everyone updated on matches.  Just ignore that website.

For Covington best person to contact by email is Ken Hughes  [email protected]

3 words... YOU. Missed. OUT.
the shoot in bama was grand!!!!! thank you guys for the great welcome. thank you mike for the great time and i am so there again next month!!! You are a great bunch and your course was terrific (even though i was only able to clear 23/60 targets...). Paul, you designed a great course... the difficulty was spot on, a great challenge but fun enough not to be frustrating. By the way, line 3, close target can only be pushed down by a hypodermic needle... no joke...lol. if anyone ever gets a chance to shoot at Heflin AL, go. Oh, yeah. by the way, dont forget your A++ game, because our northern A game (c+ in my case...) will not do. Thanks and see you next time!!!!!

Great to meet and shoot with you today.  You're a heck of a better shot than you lead on to be  8)  23/60 with all shots taken kneeling or standing, nice job  :D  And thanks for helping me out the ditch  ::)

Hope you liked your first taste of southern BBQ.  Can't wait to do it again next month.

Jay,
I am about 2 hours east of you, near Savannah.  There are few shooters over here who aren't on the GTA.
There is another GTA member in Warner Robbins, but I don't recall the name at the moment. He used to hangout in the Crosman Gate.

;) I couldn't stay quiet when I just read this last post . Come on Your talking Georgia not Maine , I realize you still get 4 seasons but back in the late 80's I spent a lot of time down there when I worked as a technical consultant for Sprint on their F.W. Woolworth's account. I know that I'm getting sorta old but I do remember walking around with just a light jacket at night and just shirt sleeves many times during the day. For my many visits down there during the winter months 3 to 4 day twice a month to straighten out billing issues.  ;D ;D

Sometimes, in the winter around here, I have to wear socks. Which I hate. I've got a bud from N.Y. who shoots PB who's lived here for a few years want shoot in the summer down here. Say's it's to hot.
