Waiting on the arrival of a rare bird in the US the Falke Model 70
«

After many months of waiting to hear back from the previous owner on the whereabouts of his .22 caliber Falke Model 70, he contacted me on Saturday, July 24 to let me know he finally found it, after negotiating price and sending payment I received a tracking number indicating it will be in my hands later this week.
Here is the written description: Post WWII Falke Model 70 .22 with rifled barrel. A very well made German air rifle and very nice condition overall. The gun has been properly lubricated, cocks and fires very well. Falke made better guns than any other air gun company at the time so their prices were higher. Falke was not in business very long and had no import partners to the US making this a hard to find gun here in the US. Sadly I deleted the pictures when I deleted his text message from my phone but will post pictures when it arrives.
One thing I like to do is source important consumable parts for my air rifles and this one will be no exception. So far I have figured out a source for the 28mm piston seal both in leather and synthetic conversion option. Currently I am trying to figure out a main spring replacement as well as breech seal, any suggestions on where to look are appreciated.

Awesome! A very difficult find indeed. For a moment I was thinking model 80. That’s on my bucket list. They were the best maker post war. Diana drove them out of business.

Congratulations! I tried to buy that very same rifle a while ago but Davis could not locate it. I'm jealous; I hope you enjoy it.

h2rider,
Thank you, I had all but given up on him finding it after nearly 9 months of waiting, then Saturday out of the blue (literally) I get a text while working on a wildland/forest fire stating he found it and since I was the first person requesting it was mine if I still wanted it - you bet I did.
Well after I was able to make my way down 7,500 feet to our fire camp, I contacted him and sent payment from one of our fire camp computers provided to check emails and make contact with family etc..
Now I am at home on my mandatory 7-day break and I sure hope it arrives on time just to check it over before I go out on the next fire. The bonus for me is that by the time this fire season is over I will be able to secure the 2 remaining rifles he has on hold for me after that my quest for vintage springers will be complete.
I just noticed that your in Liberty County, just like here in Lewis and Clark County things are busy in your area as well. Stay Safe.
As for Davis and his wife they are two of the nicest people I have ever spoke with, during our conversations we spoke about current events, COVID, the vaccine, air rifles I had questions on and I learned bout his colorful life starting with being a very young German immigrant growing up in the Philippines while they were under Japanese occupation and play with the American soldiers who liberated them, to meeting his wife who is also German born, to becoming a US citizens, raising a family and operating his airgun store in upstate New York. He also told me his family loved to visit Montana and touring Yellowstone as often as they could.
As for his airguns he has a vast range and some say he is overpriced. However, they are accurately described as to function and overall condition, many of his Airguns have not seen the shooting light of day for 10+ years. However, he does take the time to maintain the seals with proper lubricants. I also learned he test them to verify condition prior to shipping and will contact you if he notices something has changed.
I also learned if you are sincere with your offer of purchase he is willing to negotiate with you. During one of our numerous conversation he told me - he and his wife are nearly 90 and they are doing what they can to pass these along to others that value them. He also told me to make up a list of rifles I wanted and he would hold them for me to purchase when I could, the Falke was the first of three I asked him to hold for me since he could not locate it at the time.
He also told me they would be cleaning thier basement out with the help of his son to reinventory the remaining guns in his collection and that if he found the Falke he would contact me, well Saturday he found it, and I held true to my word and bought it like I told him I would nearly 9 months ago.

Pellet Fun,
Never having met him face to face and making a friend is the great part.
The other 2 he has waiting for me are a Hy-Score Model 801 (Made in Belgium .22) and a Diana Model 50B .22 caliber Variant 3 tap loader. Once I secure these my springer collection will be complete, from there I will continue to look for pumpers to tinker with and as my wife says keep the best ones and decide what to with the others. Well I plan to keep them all for as long as I can shoot them, but if I don’t like one I may sell it but only then.

Airguns and the folks who own them really are interesting and fun. My interest has grown as I've learned more about the various products and how people use them. I'd like to expand my American oldie collection along with some European classics too. I really appreciate the design skill and build quality of so many airguns. Because of that I can see how collectors will move some average inventory for better examples. I think I have a long way to go before I'll need to thin the herd.

Mike,
I plan to take lots of pictures to share. Based on what I have been able to find is the Model 70 was Falke’s answer to the Diana Model 27.
The only Model 27 I own is my Winchester Model 427, it’s about 20 years newer so I am not sure if it would make a good side-by-side to compare.
I guess I/we will know a lot more in about 72+ hours.

I am pretty sure that the Falke 70 is a copy of the Haenel Model III, not the Diana 27. WIthout being able to see the maker's name, both airguns are almost identical. Either way, a very nice piece.

h2rider,
I would agree with you that it looks more like or is a copy of the Haenel Model III, both were in direct completion with the Diana model 27 of the 1950’s. Placing the Falke next to even my newer version of the Model 27 there really are no similarities. I must say the Falke is heavier and feels like it has better build quality.
