Bench rest shooting a springer off a bag

I'm looking for suggestions on springer shooting off a bag. I have a Caldwell Tack Driver that you can say is butterfly shaped where the fore stock sets into a V . I am wondering if that is the right way...having the stock gripped in that V shape, or should I be looking at something where the gun sets on top of the bag. There are big shifts in POI depending on where and how deep the gun sets in that V shape. I am shooting an RWS 34 .177 with a drop in kit so the shot cycle is really on the tamer side. Appreciate any suggestions on bags and technique.
Thanx....Dan

Any method that has the possibility of gripping a springer differently each time my have adverse effects. When shooting from a rest I like to use my forehand on the bag just as I would if shooting offhand. This way the hold remains constant for all types of shooting. If your just bench shooting search for the "Paint Roller" springer rest, it may interest you.

I threw a microfiber cloth on top of my Caldwell bag and it does a good job of letting the gun recoil naturally. More reproducible than my hand, which also works, but apparently requires more skill than I have at the moment. Shoot groups with the stock at different positions in the bag and when you find the magical position, ALWAYS use that position for that particular gun.

A springer reacts differently for every shot when shot off a bag. Get the palm of your hand in there as well so you can feel where the rifle is sitting in your hand.
Tape something under the stock forearm to press on yor hand and create a consistent place for your palm to be located. The optimum place is usually under the forearm and just behind the 1/2 way travel of the piston.
The movement of the piston creates a double recoil and a See-Saw effect over yor palm and must be consitently the same for every shot..
Be very aware of where you place your finger digit on the trigger that it is the same for every shot. Any sideways pressure on the trigger will cause the rifle to rebound against that pressure and throw the shot off . Make sure your trigger pull is straigt backwards. Try and reduce the trigger pull weight to as low and comfortably SAFE as possible.
