SG,As much as you do to a rifle, I’d replace for sure but keep original in a bag with the guide and or anything else you are replacing. I don’t know why you’d want to but you could always turn the gun back to totally original if ya wanted. Just a thought. How is she coming ?

I've run into issues teaching me new things to think about when approaching a tune. Mostly, my mistakes with a model I've never tuned before and trying to figure the best (High or Lower) power to suite me for the R10.Hopefully that's not to vague .Kirk
Hey Tuners,Do 25 YO OEM piston seals retain their Toughness without much use?My OEM R10 piston seal looks perfect because the gun hasn't been fired much; I'm thinking after 25 years it needs replacing anyway - Right?

HW piston seal progression from old style to new style.........After the piston seal design change to "thick parachute edge reduced base" I found that there was a definite improvement in performance vs the old "thin edged parachute style". Also, the "new design" seal is less affected by temperature shifting than the old design. I have had one issue with the newer HW95 piston seals, the seals tend to vary in diameter a bit. I was tuning a "late model" HW95 for a friend and the factory seal that came with the gun fit the receiver looser than I liked so I replaced it with another new HW95 piston seal from my parts bin that fit perfectly. While I haven't had this issue when testing a factory HW95 piston seal for over a thousand shots, for some reason I received a Beeman R9 for work where a new design piston seal was cracking on the face. I don't know if the cracking was due to "bad rubber", loose fitting seal and piston was slamming, or the "copious amount of goop" used by a previous "tuner" that contributed to the cracking.........Here is my late design HW95 piston seal after testing before replacing with a home rolled oring sealed piston cap.......... Anywhoo....I just pulled this old HW95 piston seal from my bin that was cut in half to see how deep the "transfer port erosion" was in the face. The seal is a couple decades old and still flexible, even the thin parachute wasn't "crumbly" when folded out..........
