The way I see it, the air tube is going to expand when filled. It may be by fractions of thousandths of an inch, but still, that's movement I don't want imparted on the barrel.

There are joints between them. What's to say the airtube doesn't expand .002, the barrel shifts .0018, and the breech doesn't move. Then it's all skeewompus.
