I’ve got both the Urban and the DAR Gen3. Two different guns for sure. The Urban is light and maneuverable wheras the GEN3 is bigger and heavier although not quite as bulky to me as the Marauder. The Urban will be the perfect gun out to 40 yards on anything squirrel sized and smaller - possums/coons to 20 yards (with headshots). AND the Urban will do it out of the box - no tweaking/wrenching required. It does require a fill probe (included) whereas the DAR Gen3 has a foster fill. The DAR Gen3 on the other hand can be a powerhouse but it won’t have a nice bell curve like the Urban does. Typically, Gen3 rifles come with too much hammer spring so - even though they are regulated - they will start at high velocity and continue to decline in velocity thru the string. Adjusting the hammer spring is the solution but in my experience the hammer spring supplied by DAR is not of high quality steel and “takes a set” in a very short time resulting in having to constantly tweak the hammer spring tension to keep the rifle shooting consistently. You will only truly see this change in shot string if you shoot a couple hundred rounds over a chronograph. Good news is you can easily remedy this by purchasing a quality spring from several vendors out there. I know Gardner spring comes to mind. ONCE the spring is changed out my Gen3 rifles (I’ve got two) both were shooting 30 shots at a consistent 34-36 FPE. Very accurate, very powerful. Would feel confident taking a coyote with a headshot at 60 yards with no hesitation. No way I’d attempt that with the Urban - not because of accuracy, but because of power. IF YOU ARE WILLING TO TINKER WITH A GUN GET THE DAR GEN3. If you want out of the box accuracy at a medium power level and enjoy a “hands-off” approach, GET THE URBAN.
Who has the better service, warranty and most importantly parts ?
Thanks guys for all the help, have decided to go with the urban since everyone seems happy with theirs and they have been around for a long time so parts should be available to get or be able to send somewhere to get fixed.I do see that regging it is an option later if he wants to and i think 25pfe should be enough. He says he wants power but he currently thinks his springer at walmart is high power so im thinking urban will be enough. If he wants more later then he could probably sell the urban and move up. Also saving likr 40 bucks can go towards a scope, which i am trying to figure out what to get. Tried to order yesterday and it said order placed but then got an email saying it was on hold and i couldn't figure out why. So monday hopefully they get back to me.I figure try a few types of pellets i have on hand to see what it likes. Walmart here has nothing anymore, used to have the premiers and bejamin ones. Now just .177 pointed, destroyer and some diasey stuff. So before i order ill see what to get. Have jsb 18 grn, 21 kodiak, crow magnum, some premiers and i think some sort of wadcutters.Im guessing jsb will shoot the best but you never know. Hoping premiers do well as they are the cheapest.
