Is there any way you can setup your tool holder to reach both sides without having to remove from chuck?Cast cuts relatively easy but it’s messy. To catch your cutoff, put something in your tail stock to catch it. Dave
I would suggest not to use a tramming ring at all, and just indicate the mill table itself. I've made a living as a machinist/tool and die maker for 39 years and have never used one. Just my 2 cents. Cheers, Brett
What Brett said. The ring is not going to be flat because when you remove metal the ring will warp. Just center the table on the x axis and move the y axis in and out to get the distance for your indicator. put the head between gears so the spindle turns freely and just rotate the spindle. don't worry about the indicator clicking over the t slots it will come back to zero.
i only tram the vice itself , since my head wont tram and has no adjustments for such.. but tramming the vice only takes 10 minutes, then i recheck it a few months later.
Main thing is I'm learning to use my machines.
