Title: OG Centerpoint 4-16x40 IR AO - Magnum Compatible?
Post by: IRBent on February 16, 2023, 06:15:40 PM
I've been out of the game for a decade or more but just ordered a Gamo Swarm Magnum in .22 cal.  Upon looking in my old gear box I found a Centerpoint 4-16X40 IR AO scope with a one piece mount attached as well as the receipt from 2008.  I'm sure the scope was never really used since the Bushnell Trophy I purchased in the 90s has always been attached to my RWS 48 and it's my only gun.  I want to say that I remember purchasing the scope for an underlever rifle that was a dud and sent back.  Can anybody tell me if this Centerpoint scope is any count and if it can withstand the Swarm Magnum recoil?

I have run a couple of them on hatsans and Nitro piston Benjamins with no issues both still holding zeros, they were used daily for3 years now not as much with PCP taking most of my shooting time.
If you want added security I recently got one of these
recoil reducing mounts, and it works great.

That looks like an engineering mess and a weak point that could possibly make holding zero very difficult.  It has to have at least a few thousandths of clearance for those rods to slide.  I'm not about to do the trig to see what angle that might allow the scope to twist into.   ;D

I keep an old 4x16 CP around for the express purpose of testing powerful springers (D460, TF89, etc...). I figure if the gun will break a CP 4x16, it will break any scope.

Where those scopes designed specifically for air rifles?  I shot a lot in the early 90s but this scope in question was one purchased in 2008 and only used a tiny bit I bet.  Long enough to test out a defective gun and send it back.

Got one on my Hatsan mod 125.  Still going strong after 3000+ shots.

have had 2 of them from years back, they have spent most of their life on magnum break barrels, Hatsan, and Benjamin, still going strong. I did just retire one to a QB 78. Mainly as I do not shoot springers past open sight ranges much any more.
