Do any other airgunners live in RI?
-
Just little ol me 3 months late!
Only shooters here in Rhody are shooters that would rather shoot somewhere else.
-
Yeah, so it seems. I think there's another resident of Rhode Island here too but I forgot who.
-
I'm right over the line in Mass.Jake where do shoot 50 yards?
Jim
-
I belong to Manville Rod & Gun. Have a bunch of ranges to 200 yards.
I've never taken the AG's there, mostly PB's. I think they have an air gun league for Jr's.
Haven't been up there in a while. I'm in Warwick.

I shoot 50 yards near my house in Exeter. Don't really know of any public ranges to shoot.
-
Thanks
-
Is a public range at the great swamp, have 50 yards. Mostly for pistols, black powder, and rimfire rifles. AG's should be fine. Need to get a pass either at the Registry in south Kingston or at Wakefield Gun shop. It's free.
-
Do I need to get a blue card or something though?
-
Blue card is needed for handgun purchase but it can't hurt to have one even if you don't need to purchase one. Most gun shops give the test and have a study sheet.
Some shops that I NO LONGER PATRONIZE EVEN HAVE THEM IN MULTIPLE LANGUAGES.
"dang" cap lock.

Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can do this summer.
-
Jake,
go to this site and great swamp regs are in section 26.

Thanks a lot!

Hey guys, I'm in Rhode Island too.
-
Matt and Jake your neighbors.
-
I am in RI! Just googled AG shooting areas in RI and found this forum!
-
Hi Always...a little late....sorry.
Welcome Jamie, great info here. As you can see by my sig the hobby is quite addictive.
Enjoy the ride guys.
Jake you have the best, most likely shoot safely in your own yard. 50 yards is plenty.
I wish I had that but here in Warwick not many do. too many homes.
-
Anyone doing any shooting? Jake , Always, Jim?

Reviving a dead thread! ::)
I'm stuck in RI too, at least until the children graduate..... I recently tried to purchase an airgun from Crosman but they declined the sale! They stated they could not ship an AIRGUN directly to my home as it would violate state law.?? Anyone heard of this before, or know of the statute, cause I can't find it. Heck I've had multiple airgun deliveries from other sources without issue.....
Matt
Edit: I have a call in to 'Spencer' at "Crosman's legal/ customer affairs" to try to get the statute number out of him as to why RI can not be shipped to. Will update if and when he gets back to me.

OK fellow Rhodies, here is the low-down on the story.
I JUST had a long conversation with Spencer and here is Crosman's official stand. RI statute §11-47-2 (3) states "Firearm" shall include any machine gun, pistol, rifle, air rifle, air pistol, "blank gun," "BB gun," so-called, or other instrument from which steel or metal projectiles are propelled, or which may readily be converted to expel a projectile, except recurve, compound, or longbows and except such instruments propelling such projectiles which instruments are designed or normally used for a primary purpose other than as a weapon. The frame or receiver of any such weapon shall be construed as a firearm under the provisions of this section."
Therefore, Crosman as a manufacturer and retail dealer of "firearms" is required to obtain a license by this law : "§ 11-47-38. Dealers to be licensed. No retail dealer shall sell or otherwise transfer, or expose for sale or transfer, or have in his or her possession with intent to sell or otherwise transfer, any pistol, revolver, or other firearm without being licensed as provided in this chapter."
SO, out of an abundance of caution in this litigious society, and not wishing to purchase a license to manufacture firearms in RI, they simply do not sell to RI residents. not worthy but I can see their point of view. Spencer was very pleasant to talk to, even siding with me in that he can sympathize with my frustration, encouraging me to get this (likely purposefully) very poorly written legislation clarified or ratified by the state since the ATFE is VERY specific as to what constitutes a firearm.
Due to there being no legal precedence here, we need to take a stand and rectify this law. Not sure if we need to talk to the RI second amendment foundation or what but it needs to be fixed. By law this could also be construed as a number of firearm related violations that you may not be aware of, that could result in your loss of freedom or at least an expensive legal defense. Just saying....
God bless our elected representatives for keeping us safe......

My stockmaker, Mr. Tony Mele, is a resident of RI.
He is well known in the Rimfire Central Forum, particularly in 10/22 and CZ sections.
The gent makes fantastic laminate stocks for the aforesaid rimfires.
The last time we talked, he was asking me about airguns.
