But that style of shooting is frowned upon by many in field target.
Scott is right, the Armada would be closest in feel to the rifles you are shooting now. With a little work from a good airgun mechanic you can end up with a competitive rifle for a reasonable investment. Your Dad knows a very good air gun tuner that you can use. I think you will enjoy the field target sport. It mimics the Long Range Tactical shooting you do now as the exact same principals and techniques apply. Quiet shooting, cheap ammo and minimal rifle cleaning are just icing on the cake. Jim in Sacramento
I appreciate the input on the use of a bipod when shooting FT.I use a PRIMOS Gen I (as 22Jim is aware) but on my Gen I .177 Marauder I keep a Harris bipod attached to be used when focusing for standing/kneeling targets. I could put my bucket on the table and place my rifle on it when focusing. I could also sit on the buckets and use the Primos when focusing, then standup and fire. WTH is the difference? As long as I don't use the attached bipod when shooting.Last weekend our Match Director used his Primos TRIPOD during the FT match. He shoots Hunter Class. He only used the TRIPOD while focusing/range finding. When it was time to shoot, he rocked backwards, lifting one of the legs off of the ground, making it bi-pod....
My advice to Rich is get what he likes (Armada might be a good choice) and shoot it how he wants to. Just be careful how you shoot/range at any major AAFTA matches that you might attend.
Local matches are at the discretion of the Match Director.AAFTA has no authority.Neither do their governors.Hunter Division says you cannot have this and you cannot have that, etc.How about if a disabled veteran shows up in a wheelchair? Are YOU going to tell him he/she can't shoot? Not bloody likely!

I prefer to focus on shooting rather than tiptoeing through a rule book.
