Last hunting season was my 80th year and sent 90 squirrel tails that had accumulated over about 5 or6 years to Mepps fishing lures, got a nice assortment of new lures for the 90 tailsThis year our season here in Pa came in on Sept 9, still too much foliage here , but do have 3 tails so far salted for the next batch to go to Mepps. Been huntin squirrel since I was 12 yrs , not sure how long it will last, but have no plans to quit as long as the GOOD LORD allows me to.Last year was first year with PCP air rifle most before that were taken with 22 rimfire.
Okay, sure, hunting at 80 is cool..... but how's the bicycling? ?

If the OP don't mind, could you post the process for sending the tails to Mepps in return for lures?

Well, I have less annual miles than in the decades past. But, so far this year, I have a little over 740 miles; and most are on our Greenway. <--- Much safer and the hills are lower. A typical ride is usually between 15 and 20 miles. I still have good wind and enjoy the miles.

I would say that certainly entitles you to, Bicycleman! The weirdest squirrel thing I'd witnessed one time was while driving to my son's soccer game a few towns over. We came to this short stretch of freeway where there was easily 100 fresh squirrel roadkills.

I remember one fall when there were an amazing number of live and dead squirrels everywhere. Yes, hundreds of them. Don't know what was going on and never saw it happen before or since. Maybe just a squirrel population explosion after a couple of good reproducing years. This year I've seen very few squirrels in my backyard on the nut trees.
