I was shooting my TF 99 .177 today. My poor Gamo Squirrel target has been setting in the bottom land getting rusty and badly in need of paint from my all too frequent misses with the magnums.
So I went down, took it all apart, pounded it flat, painted it and oiled the pivots. It was looking pretty good in its new gray color and orange paddle!
Well I had the 99 out on the deck shooting it. So I lit into the Gamo Squirrel gradually putting reducers on it until I got down to the smallest. I was very happy with the gun's accuracy as it was dropping it most of the time. With my limited shooting skills even!
Well I've been shooting the TF 99 to get it broke in a little better. My .22 one is SMOOTH and accurate!! Of course it was worked on before I got it so there you go. I noticed that it was making a funny noise lately when I cocked it and just figured it was wearing in.
Noper the spring is broke! I'm sure I don't even have 1000 shots through it!
Is there an aftermarket spring that will fit one? Do you think Tech Force would warranty it since it is so new? I haven't taken it apart yet, so I know I haven't voided the warranty. What about a seal for one?

DOG!
All that is broke is the spring. THIS one actually hits where I aim it! Hopefully TF will just send me a new spring and seal.

If it does hit where you're aiming at,....why not just replace the spring?? Unless your velocity is fluctuating alot, I don't see any reason to strip it down completely just to replace a seal that's probably still in good shape,.....not to mention that it's most likely worn into the comp chamber now which is what you want!!!! well, I have used a spring from the QF-2 kit once just to see how it would work.
It worked and believe me i would hit everything i aimed at but, only got 575fps out of it. I dropped 12 dove with that setup, took 5 from one tree so the rifle was very quiet.
One bird would drop out of the tree and the others would just look over, but they never flew away. I was well hidden about 20 yrds away. I really would like a spring that would put it into the 650-750fps range.

That not worthy! Hopefully Compasseco can get you a new spring. Might not hurt to get a spare piston breech seal from them as well. But I'm in agreement with Thomas, just replace the spring. It sounds as if your piston seal is fine, and removing and re-installing it is just one more opportunity to needlessly damage it. The reason I say to get the extra piston and breech seals now is to have spares for later, and combine the order so you only pay shipping once. Then just stash the seals away for a rainy day.

Sage advise Nathan. Pay shipping once and buy extra parts/lubes for sure!

I also agree with just replacing the spring. If you pull the piston it will probably damage the seal on the burrs from the stamped opening where the cocking arm slides. It obviously has a good seal since it was shooting so well. Just pop a spring in that baby and keep shooting until the FPS drops off or the second spring needs to be inspected, then tear it down, inspect the spring and put in a new seal and lube.
My RWS48 shoots better than new with the Vortek kit I put in it recently. I got the kit with the new seal and spring.

Well the spring isn't covered under warranty despite the fact the gun was bought in July! That is kinda strange if you ask me. The main issue I have with it is the spring and shipping cost 25% of what I paid for the GUN!

When my RS2 lost power using 10.5 CPHP (had it for 6 months), I called PA and only told them what they need to know. I told them when I shoot it, I can pick the pellet and looks like it can be recycled. The tech told me to check this and that and finally instructed to send it to Beeman and after a month I got a new replacement.

Since I had to buy another spring anyway I contacted ARH. They don't have a spring that will work with a TF 99. In fact they were a little rude about it. Don't know what is going on with that, but the spring is one the way. Now I have to figure out how to take apart ANOTHER air rifle! I'm going to polish the spring ends and put some heavy tar on the spring while I have it apart. I'm just going to leave the seals intact and not mess with removing the cylinder.

Atchman, next time you contact ARH (via EM or fax is the best way), don't tell them you need a spring for such and such a rifle. JM doesn't have time for guessing which spring might work,...but rather give him the dimensions and leave it at that. The man works with #'s better than names!! I've noticed some of his spring descriptions are kind of lacking,...Sooo here's an EX: JM, I need a spring with this wire size and coil count, inside diameter, etc. Do you have anything close that might work? JM can probably rattle off the #'s of several, if not all of his springs without thinking of spring names. Like I've said though, best to keep things short, sweet, and to the point. He's a good guy, but extremely busy at his work. The last thing you want to do is peeve the man off,...or like that old adage,..."don't bite the hand that feeds you",...or the spring maker that keeps our toys running! As for the spring, go easy on the tar,...like moly, a little really goes a long way!!! Hope things work out for your TF 99!! tjk

Hey good points! I never thought of that! I should have just said it was x" long, had x" coils, was x" in diameter! Good deal! Thanks for being so helpful.
