I lube tuned mine when I first got it, that helped it out a bit. If your velocity is too low you might want to check the piston seal. Mine wtarted out as a .177, but is now a .22, so I can only judge it by my other .22 spring gun. It had quite a bit of pre load already so I didn't shim mine. I put a nckle in the piston in front of the tophat on my Optimus to give the piston a bit more weight. It smoothed it down a bit, but don't know if it added any power at all. ther are lots of articles on here about tuning and performance. I will try and send you the file I have from another tuner I contacted, there is a lot of good information in it you might be able to use.
I don't have a crony, so I couldn't tell you how fast they are going. they seem to penetrate as well s my Optimus and that is a stock Crosman spring rifle. I mostly shoot CPHP in it as they are cheap and resonably accurate in about every pellet gun I own. Most of the pellet guns are rated for alloy pellets and from what I have seen on here most of the generic stock springers shot in about the FPS you state. I have a few heaver pellets that I use mostly in my pump pnematics and they seem ot owrk better in those guns. I am actually trying to bring down the speed on this Tac 1 and make it a little easier to shoot. I have looked at most of the springs that Crosman uses in their guns and they seem to be all the same part#. I'm thinking of Gas ramming my Optimus and using the spring guides from it in the Tac 1 and see if a shortened spring works well in it. If it doesn't then I will have a spare spring to put back in it. This is going to be fun testing this out, and if it doesn't go as planned I will still have a useable pellet rifle.
No I didn't take it out. When I do the rebuild and such I will try that.
I tried moly on the spring, and it didn't help much with the noise. I'm going to sleeve it, and check the fitting on the spring guide. If the spring guide is too loose it will make a bit of spring noise.
I was reading that yo want a tighter spring guide fit to reduce the twang a bit. I used a thin plastic thrust washer on the top and bottom of my spring and moly pasted it to reduce the torque on the spring and let it uncoil easier. I think when I change the Optimus over to a gas spring I will use the innards from that. The Optimus is really quiet for a springer, and the spring guide is pretty snug. It will be a while before I can afford the conversion so I will mess with the Tac 1's insides first and see if that does any thing. It's got the power, it's just noisy as all get out.
Yeah basicly. I have cross referenced and found all the gas rams and their pistons and bases etc., use the same parts numbers. I will have to modify the tube at the rear a bit as the rear base is just a tad different. I will be using the Optimus spring, top hat and piston etc. in the Tac1. The Optimus is a springer, and that is the one I want to convert to a gas ram. It will be taking a place next to the modified Titan gas ram I converted to .177 with a Vantage wood stock. I use that for my front door gun at the moment. I reconfigured the front post so it is much narrower and use a adjustable peep sight I modified from a different rifle. One hole groups if I do my part with it.
Well I ordered all the NP parts today should be here in about a week. Can't wait to tinker. Going to use my spring and guides from my Optimus in the Tac1. Convert the Optimus, and use it for open sighted plinking/hunting. Can't wait to start tinkering again.
