So, I won a auction on gunbroker for a boxed 78g.
Being sold by a dealer selling guns from an estate.
I bid a ridiculous low amount, and won it.
It came in, it still had a crosman bottle cap co2 cartridge in it.
It shot and held co2, but the oring on the co2 cap would swell from the gas. So it was a 3 hour wait to put a new cartridge in.
I swapped the oring from a Crosman Mk1, and ordered a complete set from Mac1.
After about 4 cartridges the piercing cap started to leak.
TIP:
make this tool from a screwdriver tip with a Dremel tool and cutoff wheel..
It doesn’t damage the piercing tip.
You don’t have to drive out pins on the piercing cap to change the oring, just unscrew the inner part, fish out the old oring with a oring tool, and clean it, and put the new one on., and screw the insides back in.
They are easy to work on.
This one is an early one, serial number 12,380.
In like new condition.
I still like the mark1’s Crosman’s, bot am loving this one too.

I make 2 predictions;
ON THE DATE WHEN US TROOPS ARE ISSUED AN Energy Pulse Weapon,
1. The US Soldier will have on his person a version of the Colt 1911.
2. He will be aiming the NEW Weapon at someone carrying an AK47.

Those are solid shooters. Mine was clocking 420 w/mid-weight .22 ammo.
I own 2 S&W airguns, and while well built, accuracy is hampered by poor rifling on mine Always liked the fact that you can open the 78g bolt with one finger. Used mine alot for shooting water snakes at night with a headlamp.
Really appreciatef those quick reloads!

That is a pretty 78G Ian. Karen and I have a shooting pair of them. For future reference folk might have an easier time of accessing that little oring in the piercing cap by just driving out the roll pin that holds it all together. Here's a link to how that goes.
