Replacing the arm linkage on a Crosman 108

Well the first step is done. Followed Crosmans instructions which were given to me last week on this forum. Thanks! I pinned a piece of pine against the back of the arm and put the arm in my wood vice with a little leather protecting the other face. Cranked it down and used a punch to drive the pins through to the other side. Some tear out that was retained and I think I can push back and with a little wood filler it should look pretty good I think for what it is. With the pins out you can see I was driving blut end pins through that old wood! Sure could have been worse I think. Still looking in the mail for the new linkage. Then we will see for sure if the 101 linkage is the same as the 108, it sure looks identical. With the linkage out I may be able to “forge” it back to the right shape but it sure is beat up. New one is the best solution if I can make it fit.
As they say it’s never over till it’s over. lol

Wow, that worked out much better than I would have expected. I peeked at the factory manual snagged online years ago and it shows pump lever # 140-31 in the parts lists for all the 1xx series, so your replacement should work. When driving those pins in, it can be a good idea to use a suitable piece of metal to fill the gap between the two sides of the lever to prevent squishing. Just need support near the pin; a stack of washers could work.

Good job! You may consider installing the new linkage in the gun prior to marking it for drilling. That way you can be sure everything is lining up.
I have a parcel on the way from Rick, too. Planning on replacing the valve seal nuts in my 108, I hope to improve velocity in this way.

All good thoughts. I really want to take my time aligning given it is much more crucial to looks than with a 101. Your matching wood to wood. Great that I swapped out the barrel assembly to the other stock and linkage so I know it works well. Already swapped it back so all is ready.

Got a package from Rick at Precision Pellet today. Lined the new linkage up and it was identical to the old except that it was straight and not beat up. Had to deepen the channel in the wood arm a little to get everything lined up perfectly and now just like new. That makes this rifle a great buy rather than a parts gun. Thanks to Terry for telling me Rick had that part. Haven’t drilled the holes for the pins yet but now I know it works. Will wait probably till tomorrow for the last step want to be fresh. At this point it would seem easy just to epoxy the arm on. lol
Trying to think how it got this way? Given I had to deepen the channel to get it to align perfectly, I wonder if the original owner tried to line it up perfectly by bending the arm, and things went south? You could see where he hammered it trying to make it work.

Very good! I got my parcel from Rick this morning, too. Replaced the original check and exhaust valve nuts with the new, bigger ones. I was so sure it would increase compression by reducing the valve volume, but I was so wrong! Shoots the same as always. Oh well, at least it’s accurate. Take your time with yours, I’m sure it will come out looking great.

Sometimes you hit it perfect. Really took my time lining up the drill holes. Pins are back in and it’s about as perfect as one could hope for.

Well done! That looks better than mine and it's never been disassembled.

Steve, I seem to remember you saying a long time ago that you admire people who can make things or something like that. I think you did an amazing job on this one and it’s great that you saved this shooter.
