I just came from a . 236 tp , and 236 throat. the stem is .110 ish , its metric and I don't recall this minute. I thought of that too , the delrin poppet is now sitting further into the throat area to seal the valve.. I did gain in peak numbers from the larger bore ( .267 ) top to bottom , but lost in the average fps..I can always make a smaller delrin tp , keep all else as is and see if that TP is now acting as headspace so to speak.. ill have to open it up again and see if the delrin poppet is starting to take shape to the valve , ( extruding )
If you're running a longer valve stem than stock, ultimately all you do is shorten the throw of the hammer which equates to less hammer energy thus needing more spring to compensate.I personally shorten my valve stems within reason to increase hammer stroke. For example a stock marauder has roughly .250" of valve stem that protrudes from the valve, yet to obtain maximum lift on even a .25" throat (I run .225") you only need around .075" lift. I reduced my stem around .1" in OAL which provides AMPLE lift while providing roughly 13% more hammer stroke which translates to 13% more energy delivered or 13% less required spring force..-Matt
