I Posted this in the general Airgun Gate but thought I'd put it here also since it's an airgun support item. I wanted a Shoebox compressor but the price was too much for my budget so I designed and built my own. Doesn't have the shine like the comercial version but just as functional. Shut off pressure adjustable from 300 to 3000 PSI with a 125 PSI supply. It fills my 2250/Discovery in just under eight minutes.
The pistons and seals are the same as the Shoebox except I use drilled holes to connect the cylinder chambers instead of external tubing. That saved a whole bunch of machine time and fighting tight tolerances. Since my gun fills in a short time, there is no problem with heat. The block takes a while to heat up because of its mass. If I get a tank I'll definitely need to add a fan.
I needed a small piston for the shut off so I'm using a piece of 1/8 dia. Teflon rod and a 1/16 x 0.137 dia. long piece of Viton oring cord for the seal. I tried the Viton by itself but there was too much friction. Teflon alone didn't seal so the two work very well. The Teflon lubes the wall of the bore and I get consistant repeatability.
The 1/8 dia rod extends out the block and forces against the large disk to then extend the larger rod to shut off a micro switch. I adjust where the shut-off point is by rotating the knob which moves the switch relative to the positon of the rod.
There are a few refinements I could do but it works just fine as is so I think I'm pretty much done tinkering with it. It only has about 6 hours on so time will tell how well it stands up to use.
