It's that time of year,
soon the Mangos will be on so yesterday i went up the ,ountains to go check at what stage the fruit was in my mango valleys,.....I was kind of worried because this winter has been very wet and very windy,
mangoes in the mountains like dry winter and not much spring winds so not to blow the flowers.
As I got to the first batch of trees my fears came through, no fruit growing and no flowers on the trees, I went deeper and it was the same on every tree even in the deeper valleys where they are a bit more protected, so it looks this is gonna be a bad season to hunt the mango areas
At that point I decided to go hunting and started follow some different river beds when all of a sudden I came up something very, very interesting.
in this area a stumbled on a dozen or so well established thick Lilikoi vines ( Passion fruit )
At this point I spent some time in the area to figure out the real wind patterns,
after about 1/2 hour when I was satisfied that I had a good understanding of the prevailing winds I started to look for the most conducive place to set up a blind,
Slightly up a slope there's this big dowed tree so I decided I will use it for a natural blind.
Here is a picture of the tree and the vines are behind that vegetation right in front,...the wind is coming from my 10
Got out my trusty heavy knife and started cutting an initial shooting lane, and this is what it looks after I was done ( will come back in 3-4 weeks to open up more and monitor the lilikoi riping process )
Trusted Knife at work
even found a premature Lilikoi on the ground
Will come back in a few weeks with a machete and a saw to open up the grounds better and hopefully this vines will produce fruits for me to hunt over in a few months.
No game taken but still a very productive day in the woods, a tired but Well rewarded hunter
