Title: JSAR makes an announcement about the HAWK
Post by: Hajimoto on April 10, 2020, 10:45:21 AM
As most of you know, the HAWK had some barrel issues which were not at all on par to the mock up units that the factory made during prototyping. My video and other owners demonstrated that these barrels had some issues which greatly affected accuracy and consistent delivery of projectiles on target.

Today my HAWK review video received an official JSAR comment that I want to share with all here:

You can go to my video review if you want to make are comments to their comment (keep it clean and me positive).

Here is a screen grab of their comment:

Haj both of my Xisico Sentry's have really good unchoked barrels that came with them, I'm getting really good accuracy from both of them, they're unchoked.  From what I hear though some of the Sentry's did have bad barrels on them.  I never really knew what kind of barrels that the Hawke came with, if it was the Chinese barrels then I can see how people might have had bad barrels.

JSAR should definately get the quality they expect i am glad they are on top of this and a bit sad that Xisico couldn't meet that, hopefully they are going out of they way to make it right for JSAR

i must speak highly of Mike at Flying Dragon for having the patience to go over each and every Sentry before its sold, i believe he takes them all apart and re-assembles them as well as test for accuracy, having him tune it gives you a great warranty

JSAR should not have to do that, this is a custom order with multiple design changes, that should be done as requested, i hope it was Xisico that sourced the replacements for them, it would seem the logistics of shipping just barrels out of mainland is a hassle, so maybe Arrowy Flier? LW? can't wait to see how this worked out

I really have to wonder if having the weight of he chrony on the end of the barrel is messing with the harmonics of the barrel. It also looks like it is sometimes touching the bottle which could really mess with harmonics. If the flyer would go away the H&N slugs are fantastic. have you tried turning up the power with the slugs?

Trust me on this, I have shot that HAWK through a Caldwell G1 and the same results. I subscribe 100% to barrel harmonics but that was/is not the cause of the issues captured in the video. I agree the 218 H&N's did AWESOME, but I was/am so unhappy with the overall performance of the barrel I have paused doing anything additional to the HAWK until such a time that all known issues are corrected else it becomes a time sink.

TJ barrels as delivered on all calibers but .177 &.20 being LW
No issue with Raptor accuracy

the FX chrony is a great thing, but dont tune your gun with it unless
you are going to work the bugs out after removing it.
i really like my fx pocket rig, it does me a fine job.
but when all velocity is said and done.....back in the box it goes
and then further work is needed.
used it today on a rex .357 carbine that rocker1 repaired and tuned
and after the 5 shot information i got from it, its job is done and removed.
further adjusting was needed to get 3 shots touching @ 30yrds with nicks
105gr hpfb slugs for 166fpe.... 8)

And the Raptor ??? ? ;)
I honestly knew what you were getting at.
I have had so many business and life interruptions that I have not even been able to shoot my Raptor as planned let alone review it :( sad panda

Cooter, I can comment a little on the Raptor. As Mine is a Mini, a few things will be different of course.

Accuracy with the supplied barrel with pellets in .22 which is a 214 groove barrel is truly excellent with a LOT of pellets. I did not get pin point accuracy with is with slugs, mostly due to not having a sizer small enough to fit the grooves. So far, 80 fpe is where she got too. However, I have it set at 74 fpe.

I put a slug linner from Brownells in it at .2227 groove and it is a laser in the gun. No doubt had I received a Slug barrel from JSAR/Tj's, it too would have been a laser. ;)

The .250 barrels, (one a L/W) the other supplied by JSAR are both extremely accurate with both pellets and slugs. It loves .250 slugs in the TJ's barrel and .251 in the L/W barrel. I have gotten up to 150 fpe from either.

I tried a .257 barrel, and although it shot well,it has a faster twist and did not do as well with the shorter slugs I had on hand as it being the Mini, it simply does not have the Plenum for full length slugs. Which of course is perfectly normal. the .257 HP as produced from JSAR does have the larger plenum, along with a Chrome Moly hammer/plenum tube in order to handle higher pressures. Which no doubt will greatly increase power potential. ( Thinking of ordering a Chrome Moly tube in order to machine it for the Mini). Woo-Hoo!!!

I know this is not a real review, but never the less, this is my findings so far.

About the only thing I can add is that NO Squirrel, Cow Bird, or
Crow has been safe around here. They just seem to keep falling out of the trees. Must be some kind of lead aversion going around.  :( :o   ;D

Wow! I forgot to say what for me at least is one of the most important things concerning the Mini. It is no where near an Air Hog. Man, this thing sips air.

What would normally be a 1 to 1 1/2 hour session with the Rainstorm II goes on for 3-4 four hours with the mini. it just does not use a lot of air, and is so much quieter with much less recoil. I can watch the slugs all the way to the target or vermin. A HUGE + in my mind. ;) 8)
