I can't comment about the Texan platform, but in terms of a .257 it's about the only game in town, unless you custom build.... The most popular long range rifle in Europe is a regulated .224 cal (usually custom built) shooting 40-47 gr. slugs at about 100 FPE, basically .22LR Target load performance.... Most of the guys in NUAH that have qualified as a "Master" (1" groups at 100 yards, all 5 shots inside a 2" bull) are actually shooting pellets in .22, .25 or .30 cal, and most from high-priced PCPs.... Look at some of the previous monthly matches to see what the guys are shooting.... Bob
OK, I am frustrated beyond imagination with breaking 1 MOA at 100 yards. I cant even seem to break 2 MOA, even with perfect conditions today with a turret rest so I am now looking for a long range gun and am considering a TexanLSS in .257. DJ got me thinking about this caliber and now it seems to make sense. What do you think? What should I buy and why?
What I've noticed from shooting .177 slugs is wind drift is basically cut in half when compared to .22 caliber pellets of similar weight. Unfortunately, I have too many "projects" and limited time to shoot. But, my .177 seems to have an advantage over all my .22 caliber pellet guns on any given outing. I could only imagine a .22 or .25 pushing a slug fairly quickly would be better (..unless a 40-45fpe .177 pushing 20.5gr slugs could be easily had). Also want to add, I get better results when single loading (when I can) instead of using a magazine. Might be a magazine issue or maybe I take my time, read the wind better and choose my shots more wisely rather than just working the bolt/lever sending lead down range.
I made Sharpshooter in the NUAH club and did PB long distance shooting before covid so I'm confident in my skill set but am lacking the hardware.I have a 10/22 race gun that the kids call the Daisy Cutter. And it does! Now I want the challenge of an air rifle to do the same at 100 yards.
Just for discussion, as I don't want to linger on PB's (it's an airgun forum ) let's say a .22lr with standard velocity ammunition (1050fps +/-) drifts just under 2" at 100 yards with a 5mph crosswind. As far as I can figure, and could be wrong, IF you could come up with an airgun with 85fpe in .22cal and use NSA 35gr slugs or a 105fpe .25cal using NSA 43.5gr slugs (Just examples) a person should get similar results as a .22 subsonic rimfire, in theaory. The BC of .257 caliber slugs tends to be better than both the .22 and .25 caliber options, so if you managed to get a 150-ish fpe "slug gun", results should be better than... I don't believe airguns can even come close to C.F. PB's, at least using air. Not sure about other gasses (massive porting, Helium and a looong barrel could make some fpe, Lol).I could be wrong or slightly off, as I haven't had the opportunity to try out any higher powered airguns w/slugs in .22, .25 or .257, but have been running "on paper" numbers/theories... Could be wrong..

Could be wrong.. BC of a .22lr is about .145 and the CPHP is about .022. On a calm day, I can do sub 1 MOA groups with my 10/22 but cannot get groups under 2+ MOA with my current air rifles. FX appeals to me as does Airforce
