Refurb .25 Airtact problem

Trying to outthink a problem. Sometimes this refurb gun works amazingly. It is easy to cock, light livable trigger, accurate, but next shot the trigger/bear trap won’t release. Only fault I can find, anyone have this experience? I haven’t changed anything yet, just a trigger pull feels completely disconnected like the bear trap is engaged, then another pull or few and it shoots like normal. It’s the problem that it’s hard to fix a working gun. When it’s acting up, it’s unsafe to inspect. Thinking of a trigger rebuild, maybe a anti bear trap mod, but rather correct. I’ve worked on several b19 clones before, but never a Hatsan, just Chinese B19/Crosman. Looking for tolerances, shim solution on bear trap currently. Thanks any comments, gun is fun but scary

I was born in Lenoir in 1951. Are you the same fella sold me a B40 a few years ago.
You could remove the anti-bear trap or safety parts and see what happens.

If it's the anti bear trap, there's only 3 places it could have a problem and the arrows on the pic point to the 3. You can check all of it just by taking the action out of the stock.
-Left side is the pin on the cocking arm the front of the lever rides on and has flanges to hold it on there.
-Middle is the spring. With the barrel up and locked, the arm pulls on that spring, the spring pulls the arm forward and clears the trigger for firing.
Break the barrel, tension is taken off that spring and the anti bear trap slides back to block the trigger.
-Right upper is the anti bear trap retaining pin which should have both a washer and an e-clip on it. If they aren't there, that pin can slide across
making the anti bear trap useless because that end of the arm can now fall down and block things.
-Opposite side pic is of that pin which has a flange on that side to keep it from going anywhere (Hatsan got smart apparently...lol)
-The funky looking spring on that side is part of the safety and gives it the positive clicks you hear pushing it off or pulling it on.
Not something I recommend but I know shooters who remove the anti bear trap, but it is in there for your safety and to prevent accidental pulling of the trigger once the rifle is cocked.
If those are fine and no problems, it's something in the trigger not allowing the lower sear to push up in place when you cock the rifle.

SteveP, you are exactly right except...
I already took the beartrap off, and it does the same thing? I suspecting some kind of slop in the trigger now, but it goes from perfectly acceptable normal light trigger like a Crosman, to a won't shoot condition that feels like the trap is engaged, until it doesn't!
I'm disassembling, rebuilding, stronger, faster, better. I have the technology.
Thanks for looking guys, this is a weird one. When it works, I was amazed how well it shoots. When it doesn't, I'm at a loss for how to safely discharge it. Safely, I can just make it shoot with a screwdriver while it is out of the stock by tipping the sear like a crazy person.

Was either one or the other and since the bear trap is eliminated, trigger time.
The AirTact has a trigger pack sort like the Diana's meaning it's trigger/endcap/spring holder all in one. If you already took it apart, you already know. If you haven't, when you put it in whatever you're using for a spring compressor and punch out the pin, the whole assembly comes out and looks like the below pics. The pack has 2 phillips head screws on the left side, just be careful since there's a small spring between the upper and lower sears and it may well decide to be free...lol.
I half wonder if that 2nd stage trigger screw all the way in the back might be the issue. Might be just the way I was looking at mine when it was apart but sort of seemed like the lower sear wasn't quite wide enough to keep that screw always on it and might well slide to one side or the other. If it is, it would cause your problem since when/if that sear slips, now squeezing the trigger is useless since that adjustment screw isn't in place to do it's job.

It’s easy to have good ideas when I copy yours. I’m about that far and similar thoughts, I have longer bearing tip screws for trigger, think adjustments out of gun then fine adjusting may do it. I really like the gun 1/4 times I cock it 🙄
