Origin Pellet Probe Play

Recently purchased my Umarex Origin. I have a spot when cocking and returning the side lever that it feels like resistance that I have to force through. I had it jam on me twice when putting the loaded magazine in. Ended up having to force the side lever forward to load and shoot so I could then remove the magazine next cock. I have since completed the mod I saw on YouTube for reworking the magazine. Have shot another 20 rounds and no jams. I have also done the mod of removing the two back to back o-rings on the front of the pellet probe and replaced with tubing. It seems better now cocking with less resistance through the side lever range.
Here's my question. It seems to me the pellet probe has quite a bit of side to side play when it gets within a 1/16 or so from the barrel side of the valve body breech. I can take a finger on each side of the probe and move the probe side to side probably a 1/16 each way or 1/8 total. It seems like the probe should have closer tolerance to the valve body so there's not the play I am getting. I am wondering if the probe hits the magazine off center then with more pressure on lever centers the probe and loads pellet. It does seem better since I did the mod to both magazines. Is this play I have normal or is there a problem with my Origin?

The bolt probe rides in a plastic, caliber specific, sleeve. See #2 in attached picture. The Avenger breech, which I assume is the same as Origin. It is similar to the NV prior gun, the Liberty. My Liberty's do not have that much side to side play. I would say about half that or a little less. That being said, I have two Exclusive side-lever breeches which have more than that amount of play. The probe nose helps guide it into the barrel, plus the mag itself will help guide it.

Chamber a pellet….push it back out with a rod from the muzzle...and look down into the hollow base of the pellet. Can usually see the probe’s rub-mark. Do it 3 or 4 times, changing the operation from slow and careful chambering to the "slam-slam" of when you get in a hurry.
Bent probe or “sloppy” bolt...pushing off center doesn’t do anything good for accuracy.

Feels sloppy, but pushes pellets on-center doesn’t seem to do any harm, just aesthetically “wiggly”.

My brother has the Avenger. He says he's has about half of what i describe also in play. He says we both have 300.00 dollar guns so it probably is what it is. He did the pellet probe mod and suggested I try it also. He says his does fine through the cocking and loading motion with the stock magazine. I think they make a Carm magazine but not sure if they make one to work with my Origin. Not sure if that would be better than what came with the gun. I will try that load test to see how things look.

Les-I think we have to expect some slop in a manufactured product. I have 18 PCP's. Some, like my uragan are rock solid, but my 2 SPA's (M16 & P15) have very sloppy bolt probes. After putting in huma regs in both & giving them new crown's they both shoot very good except for that occasional flyer! Ribbenstones pictures got me thinking that the loose probes could be the cause of my flyers? I always thought that once the pellet was pushed in the chamber that all was good. After seeing those photo's i will be checking for those rub marks! You would think a loose probe would center itself in the pellet but being soft lead & depending on how fast you chamber a round they can obviously dig in off center & cause accuracy issues.

I just took another quick look at my gun and noticed when pulling the side lever back just enough to expose the pellet probe and pushing on each side of the probe with my fingers there was no play. I have tension on the side lever to hold it in that position when doing this. Now if I cock the gun and am returning the pellet probe forward in the pellet loading function that's when I have the play in the probe. I suppose the mag helps center the probe and I am thinking it must be hitting the mag enough to give me that feeling of a rough spot in the throw. I can see the fitting at the back of the probe moving also while pushing side to side on front of probe. This fitting connects to the linkage piece that goes to the side lever. Where it connects to the side lever is also a spot with a fair amount of play. The side lever seems like it's pretty sloppy also. It has to be the combination of all these effecting the probe play I am getting.

Les- What are your groups like? What weight pellets are you shooting & at what range are you shooting?

I guess in this inquiry I was trying to figure out the cause of the jams I experienced. I was thinking with the slop in the pellet prob that was my answer.
Currently I haven't even shot 100 rounds through the gun. I have a low dollar Bushnell red dot site and I am shooting off of bags at aprox 25 yards. I have only used the Crosman Premier pellets both domed and hollow points. Generally I can shoot the 10 shots per mag and group within a 1 in diam circle. A couple times I have had one or two outside of that. I know it's not going to be as precise using the red dot vs scope.
Since I did the mod to the mags I shots two rounds with no jams so hoping that was the fix.
