Mornin y’all. Feeling human! First time in three weeks. Today is the last day of my Covid vacation! I’ll be doing laundry today and taking it easy. Tomorrow it’s back to the daily grind, drive boats, fight fire, protect the environment. Fun stuff!
Last few weeks we were off Monday and Tuesday. It was a nice break and we got alot done with the move but, many of our team members are struggle with the shortage in pay.Fortunately this week appears to be to be a full week so far.The bad news is... it is reported that there was a fatal accident on Highway 331 this morning and it appears to have resulted in the loss of life for 2 of our team members. Details are very sketchy at this point.I believe the 2 lost are Hispanic temporary employees.
The 460 Rancher came in and I got my first cuts with it last night. WOW!The generic Blue Max 20" chainsaw I had (2 of them actually) I have been using just cannot keep up with the demands I place on it, the housing was melting, the brake would no longer hold and the clutch was not catching like it should. I canacilized the old one that essentially disassembled itself last year to get the 'new' one working again but the saw just couldn't make the cut... The Rancher 460 has a skip-tooth chain, full chisel so I was a little concerned that the 24" bar was a little long for a 60cc motor. Nope, pulls the chain just fine and the skip-tooth allows faster cutting speed. The speed is so much better that I was able to section 5 bundles of white oak slab wood in an hour last night where that would normally take me several hours to do. Some argue that the Stihl MS 391 is a better saw all-over but with a street price a hundo more and no better specs, cutting speed, and a shorter bar, I had to pass. This is my first Husqvarna but probably not my last one. Very nice machine.

I also am looking at the Makita battery chainsaw since I have nearly all their tools and the RPMs are instant on those without any of the motor cleaning issues/filter carbonator issuesStihls are nuce, but yeah a bit much. I brutalize my tools yoo. My nicest Motor is a Honda 35CC 4 Stroke Weed eater or the Brigs and Straton push behind 20" weed cutter; I can't find two better motors but obviously different applications.
