Ok, this will be a bit lame, but I did state "Poor man's". Anyway, I'll be picking up a gun security cabinet (to become my dedicated air gun storage unit) I recently won in a local online auction, and wanted to get some storage totes to store pellets, parts, cleaning supplies, etc. So, while I was looking at other things like hooks, brackets and the like to maybe aid in keeping the guns orderly, I noticed this little plastic coated wire basket and thought hey, that kinda looks like it could be a pistol rack.
Well for I think it was $5.00 it was worth a try. I got it home and started hacking away on it with a giant wire cutter as I am still using only one arm while rehabbing from surgery. Look at the pics to see just my beginning progress, and I'll be removing more of the top wires, grinding very smooth, and re-coating it with black FlexShot rubber coating to protect the pistols from any marring or rust. Just an easy inexpensive and functional rack for my pistols. Looks like I have room for a few more.

That's a stroke of genius!! I can only wish I could implement something similar - I can't.
My gun safe has no shelf space. The butts of the guns rest on the floor of the safe. There are hooks on the door. I have bent solid number twelve copper wire into racks for handguns. Hanging on the door they take up virtually no safe space.

Thanks but I have to admit it was "necessity" that was stroke of genius, but I'll take a wee bit of credit.
I was looking at the hooks and brackets for trying something like you mentioned with hooks on the door, but the cabinet I'm going to be using is only a single ply/sheet metal door, so I didn't want to drill holes for standoffs and mount like peg board. So yeah, I just saw this wire basket a couple shelves over and thought it looked like a lighter duty version of my PB pistol rack, upside down of course.
I finished cutting and grinding the other top wires so a multitude of barrel/frame styles should fit. I also re-covered it with Flex Shot rubber spray coating in black. It should be ready for use tomorrow.

Thanks Jerry, and here's the last pic of it in use in my new gun cabinet tonight. It's a little tight in there, but it worked out very well.
