Here's another question... If you are going to put a liner in it, what caliber do you go with? Do you step down in size to .257 or .357 or do you go up to .510?
Or do you just make it a carbine and cut off the offending part? I think if you can't polish the issue out, making a carbine is the next logical choice (if you keep it). Then if you really like it and want the power back, you can look into a new stock barrel, or a new custom barrel. I would expect 4 inches off the length to reduce the power by a noticeable amount but might make it accurate.
BTW, thanks for the offer for machine work, if I do a 45cal Bulldog, I'll need a bit of lathe work done. Do you have a tool post grinder for a lathe? Would need a taper pin reamer ground to size and guide bushing installed on the small end. I managed to get something that sort of works for my Bulldog, but if I go to a different barrel I'll want something nice. As well as reaming the chamber and rifling, and O ring groove, and a sleeve for the outside to fit the receiver, and crown. The whole idea is in my head, but not sure if I want to start on that road yet. I can mill the transfer port and set screw positions. Oh, and I'd need a new probe/bolt turned to fit too. So kind of a bit of lathe work.
Stripping the blueing with CLR is of no concern if your other process is going to be polish with abrasive which certainly removes the blue. The fact that CLR removed some of it suggests a deposit of some kind. Might be worth soaking for a bit by plugging the barrel and pouring some in the other end.I'd still probably run some polish through the entire barrel, but you can do that after some test shots.
Is that bore squeaky clean???A leaded/fouled bore will scatter anything, and i mean anything!Big bores need proper lubing or they will foul/lead.
Time for a new barrel,..no more wasting time.

Just a wild suggestion, have you tried a different scope?
With all the new found power from Will, maybe you need a heavier bullet.
Single digit wind chills here today but I had to do some shooting. I mounted a verified good scope that I took off of my Benjamin Discovery and proceeded to shoot some groups. I was watching some Mr. Holow point videos last night and he was talking about PSI tuning your gun. I started off with my standard 3,000 psi fill and shot 3 shots. I then dropped down to 2,900 psi and shot another 3 shot group. It seems to me that the 2,900 psi fill shot a better group. Not great but better - and it had the makings of a group rather than a shotgun pattern. So I shot another 3 shots at 2,900 psi into that group and they all shot pretty good as well. I plan to shoot over the chronograph to see what the fps variance is and keep dropping 100 psi at a time to see what my groups do. In the mean time I need to order another box of round balls. Can you believe I shot through almost a whole box already!?
Any updates on how this went?
