German AirGun Gate / Re: New Diana 460 magnum, expected FPS?« Last post by Thumpa on March 28, 2024, 06:34:41 PM »Many thanks for the additional info Rion.
In amongst the lubes I purchased from ARH, I also ordered some of the piston "buttons" which I am keen to try. There is an excellent YT video of a D460 tune which also shows the application of the buttons. I also ordered a mainspring from ARH as the OEM spring is not perfectly straight. On a slightly different topic, I have a Vortex PG4 kit for the D460 which I installed but I could not get the rifle to cock. I have had great success with Vortek kits prior to this. Any thoughts on why the gun wouldn't cock? Normally I would have thought maybe the spring was too long but surely that's not the case with a Vortek kit that is specifically made for this model rifle? Perhaps there is a trigger adjustment I need to make before the sear will latch? I only thought about trigger adjustment after I removed the kit, so I have not tried it. Currently the gun is in OEM form with only a very light smear of TbT moly paste around the edge of the OEM piston seal, otherwise it's completely stock. I have not adjusted the trigger in any way, it's as it was out of the box. Thanks very much for the guidance. 93

Daisy Gate / Re: Increase of FPS.... by pausing« Last post by Ronfiveo on March 28, 2024, 06:31:26 PM »Most all pumpers benefit from a pause at the top of the pump stroke. That makes sense to allow the maximum amount of air into the chamber with the pause. I'm very happy with the increase. Ron 95
Engineering- Research & Development / Re: Trying to add pressure sensors to LDC testing.« Last post by WobblyHand on March 28, 2024, 06:29:29 PM »Well then, that's even more interesting, as that is an effect with supersonic flow. Hmm, even more reason to get this CFD working. Made a little progress on it, the WorkBench is installed and comes up, but I'm less certain about all the libraries. Kind of super geeky software installation, which generated a lot of warnings (usually not fatal) but it did generate an error. In particular, I'm not sure the HiSA (high speed aerodynamic solver) library installed right. https://hisa.gitlab.io/doc.html. HiSA is supposed to work in the trans sonic as well as the supersonic domains.
But slowly plugging away at it. The picture below is not intended as anything that works, it's just a test structure to see if anything works at all. 96

3D printing and files / Re: Wish one of you guys would print up some Daisy 717 rear sites« Last post by TorqueMaster on March 28, 2024, 06:23:22 PM »Mine is broken. I see WTB ads every so often. Never WTS ads. JGAirguns shows them for sale at $17, but out of stock. C'mon guys, lets see what you can do. I saw Ramrod's classified request and considered 3D printing might be the solution, if y'all don't mind a part that isn't and doesn't look as polished as original. I'm curious if there's a single part that's the weak link, or if the whole thing needs redone? Anyone who wants to send me their pieces, shoot me a PM. 98
Air Gun Gate / Re: What airgun related did you do today?« Last post by Ronfiveo on March 28, 2024, 06:18:41 PM »I checked out something I read earlier in the Daisy Gate about cocking the 853.
It said that you could increase FPS just by pausing while cocking it. I was just taking the lever up to the top and back down like cocking a Daisy Red Rider. I did a test. Before pausing I was getting an average of 410 FPS. After pausing at the top I was getting from 453 to 465 FPS. I guess it does really pay to not be in a hurry and to pause and let more air in to the chamber before bringing the lever back down. I wonder if this works with other single stroke pneumatics. Ron 99
Daisy Gate / Re: Increase of FPS.... by pausing« Last post by HOSPassassin on March 28, 2024, 06:16:07 PM »I don't have an x53 but I have had many 880's and 901's. It is important to open the cocking lever out to full extension until you hear a "fft" noise and close it smoothly and steadily. That ensures that it pulls in all the air it can. Rapid and careless pumping is hard on the gun and gives poor results.

Czech & Russian Air Guns / AV-46M Grip Removal and ?s« Last post by BadFishHagDog on March 28, 2024, 06:11:41 PM »Hello all. First post after my intro message. Been a lurker for some time so I've got some postin' to do to catch up to y'all.
So here is my first question for everyone: How do I get the dang grips off of my AV-46M? I removed the two screws in the left side but the grip feels glued on. No wiggle whasoever. I fiddled with clamping the pistol and tapping the grip off with a mallet/dowel but the shape is not vise or clamp friendly. I have held and shot it for a couple of years now so I feel ready to have a go at shaping the grip but I do not want to carve it while on the pistol. I am also contemplating inlaying an extension shelf on the right for the trigger finger, and a pressure point trigger, like the Hammerli 100 free pistols. But only if the grip comes off! And finally, does anyone know if the compression tube and barrel are removable? They too seem glued (or chemically welded). Thanks, Jared |
