Bill I have not owned a Nikon, but I do have the Hawke you mentioned on my P12. My ONLY concern for you is that the Hawke has a very fine reticle, great for shooting in reasonable lighting conditiond, but since it is not illuminated, may be more difficult to see in low light conditions.
Great, an owner who would know.... What is the minimum focus distance on the Nikon (at maximum power) ?Bob

Bill,The Nikon works the same way the Hawke does except for I don't think it will focus down to 7.5 yards. But honestly, at 7.5 yards, while the image will not be crystal clear and the parallax error may be a fraction of a millimeter, you will hit what you're aiming at.Taso
I went ahead and ordered the Nikon Prostaff EFR from Amazon. It cost $17 more than Sportsman's Outdoor Superstore, but I've never had an issue with Amazon that was not easily corrected, and the reviews I've read concerning SOS have been mixed. At any rate, the Nikon should be a fine scope and be a nice complement to the HW30S.
I'll be interested to hear how you like it. I have a few older Nikon high-end scopes on a couple of powder-burners and I like them. I recently bought one of Nikon's inexpensive rimfire scopes and was unimpressed... maybe even a little disappointed. The Nikon Prostaff EFR has a great reputation here on GTA but I've been hesitant to try one. I hope it works well on your HW30S.Tight groups,Bob
If your rings don't move on the rifle, the scope doesn't move in the rings and they are fairly well centered so that a lot of adjustment is necessary, your rings are fine.
Let me ask what is probably an elemental question for those of you who have used scopes for a while: How much difference is there among scope rings. I don't know what I have on my HW30S supporting the cheaper scopes I've used, but they seem fine. What do you (or anyone else) recommend?
