Day 1: 100 Yards This could prove difficult. 75 shots... 25 planned to try and get on paper the other 50 to get dialed into center or there abouts. All 75 shots off paper! I don't have a spoter to help me see the dirt rise, so I don't know if I am hitting low under the target or if I am actually shooting high and hitting behind the target. Will have to try and get my mom or dad to come out and man my spoting scope to help me out. Because towards the end of the 75 shots I was aiming well above the target, matter of fact target was just out of the scope picture.
Some details on your setup would be nice;Jesse
I don't have any cardboard, but I have big sheets of paper. I can construct a frame to hold a sheet of paper behind the target or staple my target in the center of the sheet. That is an ingenious idea, would've took me a while to think of that. Thanks
So today got cut short by some rain. YIPPIE RAIN!!! WE NEED IT!!! hahaha.Anyway I had my baking paper behind the target and found my hold over was to much. Dropped back down onto paper and made some scope adjustments. And sent 2 pellets 1 inch apart 3¼ inches high of center. I should've adjusted my aim not my scope because made my scope adjustments 10 clicks down to start. And I ended shooting a foot off center low left. But like I suspected even though they were misses the grouping is within 6 inch. So tomorrow if no rain I'll bring the scope back onto my vertical center line and move up and down based on point of impact.I tired my Hollow Points for the heck of it. They missed entirely while my destroyers where hitting tomorrow I'll take my points, out and see how they do. But for now I'll continue shooting primarily my destroyers. I do think if I can successfully make this 100yards, that it might be the accuracy limit for my rifle though. Just based on what I am seeing so far, If I wanna go beyond 100yards and hit that 1,000' goal I'll need a more powerful air rifle. But I am going to keep trying.
No graphic hunting pics (they have to be posted in the Hunting Gate).
100 yards with a .177 "piston" gun, either gas or spring is doable, but challenging. After you get everything sorted out (optic, heavier domed pellets, a rest and hold that works for you, etc.) you'll find wind to be your biggest challenge. Wind flags of sorts will help tremendously. As a tip, if shooting into a headwind (or a light breeze) your pellets will impact slightly higher than normal. Sounds kind of crazy, but that's how things work out. Also, make sure to have fun too while you're sending lead downrange.
