Air Guns with CO2 cartridges - some beginner questions

I have a not-yet-used Umarex Colt Government 1911A1 (UX USA) #2254000.
I'd like to ask some very basic questions.
1 - Once I load the CO2 cartridge, how long does it last? Days, Weeks, Months? If the gun is sitting unused, does the pressure constantly go down?
2 - Does the answer to the above question influence accuracy?
3 - I assume once a cartridge is loaded, it can't be un-loaded until it is used up. Is this correct?
I intended to shoot this gun on an outdoor range at 15 yards, using ordinary Bullseye targets as I use for my other guns.
Finally, roughly how many pellets will the gun shoot before the cartridge needs to be replaced?
I'm new to this forum, and new to air guns. I thought this would be an ideal pellet gun to practice with indoors, then decided that's not a good idea, so I'll shoot it at the range. I've re-re-re read the manual several times, and intended to get to use the gun, but something always came up. In two weeks, I expect to get my chance.
I have shot an "Benjamin" pump air gun that my brother has - pump it eight times or so, and shoot. That's my only experience at this, and we were shooting at plastic soda bottles, trying to push them across the driveway, perhaps 10 or 15 feet away. I have no idea what to expect from this "Colt".
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for posting - that video didn't answer any of my questions, but it was certainly interesting to see my gun in action.
I hope it can shoot better than that - I'd like to think it is appropriate for precision shooting, not just splattering rounds all over.
I guess when you remove the CO2 cartridge, any remaining compressed air escapes. Any idea how many rounds it can shoot on one "charge"?
Interesting that the video you posted is from India - I didn't know they even had airguns over there! Way cool - will check them out on my next visit to India.
Thanks for posting!!!

Mike to answer your question about how long the co2 cartridge is only good for a short amount of time. I've left them overnight in that type of pistol and they were fine however with that kind of a seal you want to shoot them out as soon as possible or the seal with be damaged with the constant extended pressure on the seal. With the older vintage Crosman and Benjamin's o rings hold the pressure after piercing the cartridge initially and with most of the rebuild kits made for them today I've actually left co2 in them for over a year and there was still pressure in them.

Answers to your questions:
1) If the gun has good seals, they can hold pressure almost indefinately. If the seals aren’t so good, not as long.
2) It can. If the CO2 is almost empty, it would be a problem.
3) If the CO2 is in the magazine, you can remove the magazine without loosing your CO2. If it is held in the grip by a screw or, lever, you will lose the CO2 if you take it out.
The number of shot per CO2 varies all over the place. I’ve tested lot of pistols for Hard Air Magazine, And I would say 30-70, depending on the model of the gun.

Thank you all - I think I got all my answers, and I'm pleased with what I just read.
I may get a chance to test the gun this coming Friday. .......and are there maintenance things I need to do at the end of the shooting day, just as the cleaning I do for my other guns, or do I just remove the CO2 cartridge, dispose of it, an put the gun away for "next time"?

Leave the cartridge in. No need to waste CO2. A wipedown won't hurt. No need to do the barrel. I would remove the magazine to make sure it is empty.

I started reading the owners manual again that came with the gun.
The manual says "
Do not store your air pistol with a CO2 cartridge in it. (This is very important to remember, as it will prolong the longevity of your air pistol seals. If you know you will not be using your air pistol again within 24 hours, remove the CO2 cartridge from the air pistol as explained in Step 3B below...
)
My interpretation is that if I'll be using the gun again the following day, I can leave the CO2 cartridge in place, but if it's going to remain unused for a while, I need to remove it.
I think I read the manual from beginning to end several years ago, but I never got to where I was going to shoot it. My trips to the Bullseye Range are usually with 22, 38, 44, or 45 caliber guns. When I visit my brother, he likes to set up a plastic bottle filled with water, and we take turns shooting at it with his pump airgun. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or accidental, but many of my pellets ended up inside the bottle!!! Anyway, I'll get a chance to do this again in two weeks or so, and I'll follow the above instructions.

I have a Umerax Colt and Smith for 15 years or more. They do recommend not storing Co2 in the pistol all the time because Co2 will swell and melt the rubber seals in the pistol. The liquid Co2 will quickly trash an O-ring. So if you leave them in store them in the up position and not on their sides so as the liquid Co2 stays in the cylinder. You cannot remove a cartridge from these pistols or they rapidly bleed out.
I've had seals go on Co2 guns just sitting on the bench not 3 months old. I have a Benji Rocket that has had the same cartridge in it 3 years and is still ready to go. Good rule of thumb is to shoot them out and remove the cylinder and if you can't ,store the weapon so as the liquid Co2 stays in its cylinder.
Been awhile since I shot mine but I'm thinking I got around 50 shots per cartridge. They are nice Co2 pistols.
