Stabelize the barrel with duck tape or another kind of tape. The but stock should be a tight fit with the screws it's held in place. Maybe the screw holes have become to large?
The tape wrap is about the best way to fix a wobbly stock.
Anytime I come across a wobbly stock I wrap the end that goes in the receiver with electrical tape. Works for me every time. JMHO

My left cover is extremely difficult to get screwed down properly as it is, requiring extreme torque on the upper screw head.I may have to use clamps once the tape is added.
Is the "upper" screw to which you refer in the front of the receiver??
How many wraps of tape usually does the job?
I am still concerned about the receiver halves separating.....that shouldn't happen....

Very curious... have you by any chance attempted a new valve in an old metal receiver?
I think I would be checking the BB loading port cover or the position of the bolt.
